Current Processing Times for UK Visas?
Anyone know how long it is taking to process UK visitor visas for Cambodians at present?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Much quicker than last year. Got our back within 10 days last month. They said expect a turnaround of 4 weeks, but was very pleasantly surprised to get an email after a week and a half.
This is for a repeat visit - don’t know if that makes a difference.

Did you pay the official bribe for expedited service? I've always struggled to see the difference between this and paying the Sangkat guy $15 to prevent my document sitting on his desk for weeks.
Edit: I forget how long you have to use it from which time you get 6 months??

With the UK version the bribe is fairly shared between the shareholders of Blackstone Inc, the US-headquartered owner of Dubai-based VFS Global.
You want to hear worse? In the UK, VFS have subcontracted out the collection and initial processing of visa renewals in many towns to local authority public libraries and similar. Remember VFS only does that initial stage, Border Force and the Home Office are still in charge of the actual decisions.
In other words, the UK Government gives a private company loads of taxpayer money to collect application forms, which it does by paying underfunded local councils slightly less money to do it for them and keeping the difference. Thatcher must be wanking in her grave.

Oh and don’t pay VFS extra for SMS updates. They”ll take the money but I never received a single SMS.
Anyone grabbed one recently?
Any changes for better or worse in turnaround time?

My missus got her 10-year UK visa a few weeks ago. It was a 3-4 week wait.
The starting date for the visa was another three weeks later, which was annoying.

Thanks, guest9. I hadn't even realised they existed, but now I see there are 2, 5 and 10 year.guest9 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 01, 2023 10:39 pmMy missus got her 10-year UK visa a few weeks ago. It was a 3-4 week wait.

Did you build up with several shorter ones before going for the 10-year?
Also, Schengen it seems must be applied for in the home country, not whilst in the UK. Having a goosey at the website, it seems you need exact travel dates and hotel bookings, which is shite. Can't just throw a tent in the back of the car, take a ferry across the moat then drive.
Any 3rd country persons, such as Brits, had experience of applying for Schengen with their significant her/him/them?

That was the original plan, but covid wrecked it. She got her first 2-year visa in Dec 2019, so it was wasted and no more visas to the UK were added. Nevertheless, her passport had plenty of visas to other countries, and she could show a good amount of assets in the form of properties and owning a business (they asked for the last 6 months of bank statements, so she dumped 64 pages of print-out on them).
I wanted her to grab the 10-year visa because I don't trust a UK govt not to change the goalposts.
It's the old story, show enough wealth and the UK loves you.
^ Nice one. Thanks.
3 previous visits and easy for her to satisfy the moolah question I think.
Just spoke to a guy in the UK who deals with these things and he said that the visa authorities actually prefer to give out the long ones as it's more money for the same amount of work. Sounds plausible.

Yeah, my missus was nervous she'd be refused as it was such a big ask. I insisted it would be a piece of cake, and so it was. You'll be fine (can always go for 5 year if you have doubt anyway).RobW wrote: ↑Fri Jun 02, 2023 2:07 pm^ Nice one. Thanks.

I think getting the Schengen visa is going to be fairly easy once she has the UK visa in her passport
Go to the French Embassy and explain that you want her to visit their beautiful country as her dream has always been to see the Eiffel tower and eating escargots.

It's easy but they seem to give the exact days you ask for?logos wrote: ↑Fri Jun 02, 2023 6:45 pmI think getting the Schengen visa is going to be fairly easy once she has the UK visa in her passport

Can you actually go to the embassies or is it farmed out to contractors, UK-style?
France has excellent roads for steaming south on and the moat is quite narrow at that point but I like to hop the boat to northern Spain.
