Check with a local barang doctor....I have see some of the, um, clinics around town and they are pretty terrible. Biggest problem is not removing the entire foetus and an infection setting in...one of the Sugarettes almost died from this.
The biggest problem is the girl in question takes the money from her S.O. to get one from a good clinic, but goes to a cheap clinic in order to pocket the difference...beware.

that's exactly why I questioned whether SOS did it... be very careful of locals!!!
And, yes, go with your girlfriend to pay the person and wait while she has the procedure. I'd really be careful .... so easy to end badly

No problems concerning trust or money from either party thankfully. Just the question of which place is the safest.

Sorry cant help on this one... never heard anything but the worst of abortion stories in Cambodia... the worst of them being a local doctor who carried out an abortion at 7 months old with his hands and a vaccum cleaner, leaving the babies left arm, which tore off during the procedure, inside her).choukabal wrote:No problems concerning trust or money from either party thankfully. The most common thing Ive heard from Cambodian girls is how they had to go through the experience alone and had no one with them afterwards to talk about all the emotions it brought up. Best thing you can do is make sure you are there during and afterwards with a closed mouth and open ears.

Good advice. Stuff happens I suppose, but helping the girl out of psychological aspects of it is a must.Doctor Seuss wrote:choukabal wrote:The most common thing Ive heard from Cambodian girls is how they had to go through the experience alone and had no one with them afterwards to talk about all the emotions it brought up. Support is not an issue with either party, be it emotional or monetary. Both have money, both are willing to work and 'listen with open ears'.
The original, most important and most simple issue still remains:
"Where is the safest place to go?"
Need I repeat myself?

Depending on how far along she is, she may be able to go the much easier route involving pills.
Otherwise, you can check the yellow pages for "maternity" clinics (ironically).
Maybe contact Marie Stopes (an international NGO specializing in reproductive health, which offers such services).
Best of luck.

Yes. Please repeat yourself 10 more times.choukabal wrote:Support is not an issue with either party, be it emotional or monetary. Both have money, both are willing to work and 'listen with open ears'.

RHAC (Reproductive Health [?] Cambodia) is an excellent organisation - clean, well-trained medical staff. go there.
As said above, Cambodia has a horrible reputation re. botched abortions. Partly it is due to unqualified staff and unsanitary conditions - in the countryside, but you also have to factor in the common Cambodian mentality of thinking short-term and failing to prevent problems.
In the countryside the norm is to have a backstreet abortion, then go to a hospital after complications have set in. girls will carry this mentality into the city. I have learned of more than a few cases of Western men giving their pregnant girlfriends adequate funds to get a proper abortion, but she goes 'cheap cheap' and pockets the rest (because she doesn't want to 'waste' the money).
So, as advised, take her personally and see that the job is done.
