Police check
Police check
My Thai wife needs a cambodian police check.
First can someone give the correct address for the ministry of justice. I have read different adresses on various internet sites.
Is there a good hotel nearby we can stay in?
What will be asked for by the ministry of justice?
How long does it take? Do we have to wait in cambodia to cleect it? Will they post it to Bangkok?
Any information will be appreciated.
I read in another topic thay ask for 10 passport size photos. Is that right?

I assume you're doing this as part of the requirements for the application of the Partner visa.raymp wrote:We are not in PP we are in Australia and will go to PP soon to get the clearance.

I'm also going through this process at the moment in Australia with my Khmer wife but I'm hoping we don't have to go back to Cambodia to get the police check.
Her father will try to organise it for us in PP.
Do you have anyone there who can take a few photos and the family book or other ID to the Sangkat office and get it done without you going back?

It's quite common for immigration departments to require police clearances from any place you've lived for more than 6 months. (for non-tourist visas)Phuket2006 wrote:raymp wrote:We are not in PP we are in Australia and will go to PP soon to get the clearance.I am confused.Am I the only one? Not sure how you'll do a lot of this since you don't live here, but this is an outline of what I had to do. It is a major pain in the ass.
1.) From your landlord, get your original lease contract that has a stamp from chief of police commune on the back.
**Some landlords might not have submitted their lease contract to the police commune (it costs them money.) This is an essential step and needs to be done as soon as possible to start the process.
2.) Have a Khmer speaker amend the attached document (send me a PM and I can send you the form I used) with your details. This is an acknowledgement by your police commune that you have lived there. Make sure it’s proofread carefully- this needs to be 100% correct with your full name as it appears in your passport, parents names, etc.
If you lived in more than one house and you don’t want to chase down your old landlord(s), ask your current landlord if you can just amend the form to make it say that you’ve lived in you current house for the whole time you’ve been in Cambodia. This may cost you more money for the commune to sign off on.
3.) Print the document and add your photo to the upper left hand corner. Take it to your local commune along with a copy of your passport and lease with the commune stamp. They will stamp, date, and return the form to you. This should cost $25-30 but has been known to cost up to $100 if they commune has to sign off that you’ve live in the same house but you actually haven’t.
4.) Go to the Ministry of Justice (the back entrance is on the riverside near Chaktomuk and directly across from Visitor Information Center)—the sign says “Court of Appeals. “
From the back entrance in the parking lot—turn right and walk to the end of the cars. Turn left towards the main building and look for the Criminal Records office on the ground floor near the stairs. Buy a form for $1.
5.) Have a Khmer speaker fill out the form for you.
Return the completed $1 form to the Criminal Records Office along with:
a) a copy of your passport
b) a copy of the stamp you got from immigration the FIRST time you entered Cambodia (not the first visa extension, but the first time you landed at the airport and got a one month visa)
c) completed and stamped copy of the Police Commune form
6.) The criminal record check and certificate will take one month to process and will cost 250,000 riel. If you want it “express” (3 weeks) it will cost 500,000 riel. Want it translated? It'll cost you $15-20 more.
Good luck!

Well, I just went to Lucky Lucky Motorbike Shop and they couldn't do it.
They sent me to a nearby Police Station, where I had a crazy discussion with 5 different outcomes from an incompetent officer, without result. He took me to a Foreign Affairs office and they couldn't do it either. I've tried the Ministry of Justice and even my embassy (which is in Bangkok).
If anyone knows of any other options, that would be great, I'm desperate...

Well, I went to Lucky Lucky Motorcycle shop this morning and they couldn't do it, or even heard of it.
I went to the Police Headquarters, Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Justice and even my embassy (located in Bangkok) can't help me.
I need one for a visa to study in Canada... if someone REALLY knows where to get a police check, let me know!

No, we all need to know in detail where you are, what you're doing and your bank account details. Otherwise well just pull your leg.raymp wrote:Becasue we are not in thailand the whole time. It is irrevalant where we are
