We have all scheduled voluntary castration procedures and public readings of Germaine Greer's works to rectify this, in our ongoing bid to fall in line with the PC know-it-all crowd.mariam.barber wrote:hey Boys, too much testosterone on this thread

I'm not eligible for ID card and I don't even speak Khmer beyond soksabai and nyam bai, but my Khmer friend said it would be a good idea to get one, although apart from the obvious release from paying visa fee, I'm not exactly sure why? My friend recons I could probably get one done in some commune in province, if I became friendly with the local official, but how much do you recon it would that cost ? Anyone here has any experience?
I seem to have lost the immigration law booklet, can anyone remind me about the rules, like how many years you have to live here or how much money you cough up to get a nationality? I guess there is no half-way solution like citizenship?

Not that simple, you have a 5% chance at most if you are a whitie. Not sure about the past, but Khmers ID thesedays required a signature from the governor from that particular province in order for it to be valid.claptrap1 wrote:I'm not eligible for ID card and I don't even speak Khmer beyond soksabai and nyam bai, but my Khmer friend said it would be a good idea to get one, although apart from the obvious release from paying visa fee, I'm not exactly sure why? I think the legal route of obtaining one starts from 20k USD and up. Last time I tried to doing for a mate, my 3k offered was turned away immediately.

My ex-boss's son with an Australian passport pay US$50K to get the ID, so he can invested in properties here. I don't know if that entitled him to waive the visa fee, as he still use the Australian passport to enter Cambodia.claptrap1 wrote:I'm not eligible for ID card and I don't even speak Khmer beyond soksabai and nyam bai, but my Khmer friend said it would be a good idea to get one, although apart from the obvious release from paying visa fee, I'm not exactly sure why? Is that the legal fee? I know you can wave the speaking etc if you cough up enough money... I don't think you have to pay a million like "Lady Tomb Raider" did.

Seven years and have to speak and read khmer. I don't know about money.claptrap1 wrote:can anyone remind me about the rules, like how many years you have to live here or how much money you cough up to get a nationality?
Or go married with khmer, then you don't need to speak or read (khmer).claptrap1 wrote:I know you can wave the speaking etc if you cough up enough money...
Pardon my engrish, thanks you.
Well, I don't think I will have fulfilled either of those options by the time seven years is over, so it will leave me the option of coughing up money if I feel like becoming Cambodian... You never know how the economical or political situation might change.
