Where can I find...?
I'm looking for a few items and would appreciate any suggestions on where to find them.
1. A male to male audio cord that's 10+ feet long
2. Curtain rod -- I've only been able to find horrible decorative ones, I just want a simple, IKEA-esque jobbie
3. Decorative pillows -- Would prefer not ugly silk ones but am unwilling to pay the $38 per pillow that Bliss is asking
4. Jump rope
5. Some sort of fold-up futon thing that could sleep one person in a pinch or inflatable mattress
Thanks!

1. Have you tried the Sony store at Sorya for the batteries and audio cord? I do not know if they have it, but they just might have it.
4. you should be able to get decent rope at the small hardware stores. Have them cut it to the length you want and you now have a jump rope.
Thats all I got.
That's right. Shop smart. Shop S-Mart.
That's good. They got me a cable wire installed in my house for my tv even though they don't sell it there. I'm sure I payed a premium, but they delivered.connecticuter wrote:...

Best place for lengths or cord or cable and doesn't rip you off is a store facing Psar Thmei past the top of Kampouchea Krom, past a few gold shops, phone shops and electrical shops. Just got an HDMI cable there and had 3 lengths to choose from. Previously got a VGA cable and audio cables there.
Ey up, receipt is sitting next to my keyboard: Ly Hour, #120-122 St. 136 (opp. Central Market - south). Tel. 023 218501
Curtains and pillows (and ) are not really my ..... idiom.

I came, I argued, I'm out
For jump ropes, try Pencil on 214 - upstairs, on the corner shelves near the weights/training machines. I got one from there for a kid's birthday recently. Pretty sure I've seen them in the "weight training shops" on Monivong near Central market, too.4. Jump rope

What;'s the problem? You're in a country where labour costs nothing. Just find the people who can do it for you.
Good luck with that.
Now I'm just waiting for Conny to come up with some more DIY q's.
Go to the street parallel with Monivong near Orussei market. Loads of tv/hifi fixers there that can make you a cable as long and weird as you want.giblet wrote: 1. A male to male audio cord that's 10+ feet long
I remember that problem - found some nice but expensive stuff at Russian. Alternative, DIY with bamboo (looks nice if you go for that) or metal/ plastic tubing.giblet wrote: 2. Curtain rod -- I've only been able to find horrible decorative ones, I just want a simple, IKEA-esque jobbie
Buy the materials at Olympic or Orussei, buy the stuffing. Have someone tailor it to your liking.giblet wrote: 3. Decorative pillows -- Would prefer not ugly silk ones but am unwilling to pay the $38 per pillow that Bliss is asking
Maybe a market store selling... rope? Or go to a sports shop (there's a row on Monivong near Central market)giblet wrote: 4. Jump rope
Hammock? Buy a piece of foam.giblet wrote: 5. Some sort of fold-up futon thing that could sleep one person in a pinch or inflatable mattress

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. So far I've found the pillows and curtain rod. I checked out Ly Hour for the cable and they didn't have male to male so wanted to sell me another one that I could then convert into a male to male with another cord. They wanted $11 for the whole jobby, though the same cord on Amazon is $2.50. I never understand why it's cheaper to buy stuff that's made in China in the US rather than Cambodia.
Am going to check Pencil for a jump rope tomorrow.
Now how about inflatable mattresses? Not sure if I want a big piece of foam in my house, seems a little LC.

I am not quite sure what a male to male audio cord is without more info (ie RCA connectors ? 3.5mm, 6.35mm etc etc) I have purchased from these guys before, Cambodia is on thier list of shipping destinations. I am aware that the postal services in Cambo are lacking but if you do end up giving them a try, let us know

It could be because US retailers import huge volumes of such products from China, and the unit price is greatly reduced. Cambodian retailers import relatively small amounts, and have to get their goods through the notoriously inefficient and expensive customs here.giblet wrote:I never understand why it's cheaper to buy stuff that's made in China in the US rather than Cambodia.
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.

That makes a lot of sense. When I was trying to stock my kitchen I was shocked by the price of tupperware. In the US you could get a full set for just $10, whereas here $10 will get you 2 lame pieces if your lucky. At the happy farm grocery store, they actually wanted $12 for a single tupperware bowl.
Note: The discussion of the various prices of tupperware is very masculine.
