Chinese New Year is everything closed?
Chinese New Year is Saturday I think. In PP does everything close for a week like in VN? Are the restaurants and banks open next week? Bus schedules same same like on non-holidays?
Certainly a lot quieter and pretty much closes down, but there'll be a skeleton staff at places like Lucky supermarket.redcup wrote:In PP does everything close for a week
Best time of year to go to see Angkor Wat/temples.

Only go to Siem Reap if you love big crowds. Peak season! All the Chinese from outside the country will be travelling.
Of times I've visited there, Chinese New Year was by far the quietest... 3 people on the causeway to AW, iirc. Long, empty galleries and no tour groups all day.
That's changed since 2006.Chuangt2u wrote:Of times I've visited there, Chinese New Year was by far the quietest... 3 people on the causeway to AW, iirc. Long, empty galleries and no tour groups all day.
Peak, more peak than Christmas/ New Year, complete black out periods for hotels.
2009, I think.
You're normally spot on the money with these things SS; maybe I was lucky that day?

Chinese New Year is not an official national holiday. Many businesses will remain open or half-open.
I came, I argued, I'm out
23rd is the day to see the new moon, so that's CNY.
I'm off from Saturday to Wednesday.

You were probably lucky. Though 2009 was the worst year for tourist numbers in recent years.Chuangt2u wrote:2009, I think.
