Coming to Cambodia in a week, should I take Aussie dollars and change in Phnom Penh to get the best rate from the the money change guys at the markets or just take US$ from oz and be done with it ?
Thanks in advance

Best rate - some advice pls
What sort of fee or commission will they ask for in Australia?
Some men you just can't reach. So you get what we had here last week, which is the way he wants it... well, he gets it. I don't like it any more than you men.

whichever you choose, don't use the airport exchanges.

Aussie Dollars, change at Psar Kandal. They'll give you base rate less a tiny cut, no way the Aussie banks can compete.

That's what I thought.
Last time I had to change non US currency at the market, I just checked the exchange rate online in the morning. When I got to the market the lady gave someone a call on her phone to confirm the rate, and as it was pretty close to what rate I expected we went with it. Much cheaper (I think) than a bank would do back home.

Preybong,
Bring your Aussie cash to Cambodia, everyone knows Aussie banks/currency exchangers are rippoff cunts.
Change a small amount in Australia to tide you over for the first day or 2.

Would you also recommend Psar Kandal for changing USD into Thai baht and Indian rupees for an upcoming trip? Or where would a good place for that be, yathink?

Just got 94 usd for 100 aud . Not sure if I can do better but thats a guide for you.
That's 2% off the base exchange rate, surely you can do better than that. I would have thought 0.5% off should be easily achievable (or better as Jackal points out).Lucky Seven wrote:Just got 94 usd for 100 aud . Not sure if I can do better but thats a guide for you.
What about travel agencies or shops in Aus? I know in the UK, places like m+s or the post office can give decent rates

You jest!
Best plan if visiting from the UK is to withdraw several thousand GBP from your bank in clean £50 notes.
I used to have all this stuff tabulated in Excel spreadsheets.
