It doesn't, but you adapt to local habits. In colder climates, people make the most of it whenever the sun shines. Here we stay in the shade as much as possible. I sometimes miss the variations in temperatures. Last time I visited Europe it was mid-summer, and when I stepped off the plane I felt brass monkeys, while everyone else was wandering around in flimsy clothes. One great advantage of living here is you never have to buy winter-wear, one layer will do all the year round, no need for $400 Northface jackets.dv8inpp wrote:Why would living in a hot climate for a few years overcome thousands of years of genetic adaptation that made it pleasant to live in a cold climate?
Will I get used to the heat after living here for a while ?

Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
I certainly would like to see airco's being able to maintain a temperature of around 32-33 degrees. At about max set temperature of 29 degrees, the temperature control goes haywire and these units only blow warm moisture. Even my car doesn't go above 29 degrees regulated, which is pretty much to cold for 38-40 degrees outside.
My best experiences are with the Panasonic EcoNavi. A kind of modulating airco, spitting out a cooler breeze every now and then. Compare that with the freezing type of airco.
When in the shade, a couple of meters above the ground floor, with a nice breeze, even the current 39 degrees is bearable. Though humidity is quite low at the moment. Dewpoint around 21 degrees vs temperature 35 degrees, I saw this morning.
The first time I came home from Cambodia (nearly 10 years ago), is was becoming European winter and it took me around 2 months to get used to the cold, despite several clothing layers. Unbearable.
Getting used to ? A bit, though I wasn't in Cambodia 3 weeks ago, when it was dripping hot.

I don't workout, but I do have a sauna every day, my office has no aircon. Not so bad now, but a month ago measured 48C one afternoon.LexusSchmexus wrote:I even workout around lunchtime without aircon.

Most people interested in natural health do. You can tell a lot about what's going on with your health by checking out your poo.Khmeria wrote: lol you look at your poo in the toilet bowl and analyze its features
Plus, you don't need to do much looking or analysis to know if your poo is coming out as a banana (ideal) or as pellets (sign of dehydration, among other things...can also show lack of fibre, which, long-term, is not a good thing for the health of your colon).

Lived in hot places most of my live but still think it is stinking hot at the moment (as do my colleagues).
I always exercise in this heat, I run pretty much every day, but overheating and dehydration is a real threat (I sweat buckets); make sure you drink looooooots of water (beer doesn't count).

I have been here almost a decade and have definitely adjusted to "normal / every day" heat and humidity in the hot season - this is the usual conditions that make a visitor squirm and complain however I barely notice. I don't think anyone ( Khmer or otherwise ) ever adjusts to the absolute stinking days that randomly attack and leave your lungs burning with every breath intake and sweat running down into your arse crack like a river. I stopped sleeping with AC for over a year now and can report I sleep much better as a result. With AC i used to wake up all the time with it too cold etc. Even used to get the flu from it. not to mention the cost savings. it only took me a week to adjust.

A phrase that I never thought that I would see on 440 - unless it was LaudJohn and Cambod talking, not that there is anything wrong with that.diamond lady wrote: ... which, long-term, is not a good thing for the health of your colon).

Ah. Nigella. Very fond of the wine too.
And, err, powdering her nose quite openly at parties.

Have seen those two pics before...Nigella's pic was taken on the red carpet. Gillian's pic was taken when she was on one of those desert island/survivor-style reality tv shows, being deprived of food, water, having to do stressful challenges, and with no professional hair stylists or make-up artists in sight.
Just for context ; )
