I agree that America has ( as in past tense ) played an important role in the world, but the focus has changed in the past 15 yrs.
You guys don't measure up any more.
You are yesterdays newspapers.
American English is the international language of the internet, making British "English" so yesterday.
What has the UK or Australia given us lately besides the clap?
The US has more proven oil reserves than all the rest of the world combined. Within 3 years its output will surpass Saudi Arabia and by 2020 it will be a net exporter of oil. It has enough natural gas already drilled to last 100 years. it has 88,000 miles of saltwater shoreline for fisheries and other resources such as oil and gas.
You could hide the UK somewhere in Texas and no one would ever find it again. Or care.
Cheers
Could you imagine... a brit in Texas... I would give them 1 week tops.

How was TV invented in the US? I can't find any source to back up that claim.Adapter wrote:While you're at it ditch your TV because they were all invented in the US.
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.

yeah, from the wiki history of TV we were a little late to that game... by 4 years:
"The first commercially made electronic television sets with cathode ray tubes were manufactured by Telefunken in Germany in 1934,[107][108] followed by other makers in France (1936),[109] Britain (1936),[110] and America (1938)."

So all these resources (assuming all your claims are true), but it's almost bankrupt? And so many of its citizens choose to live away from Utopia? Why? Serious question, because there are so many Americans living all over the world telling people how great it is, but they themselves aren't there, they're almost everywhere except there. Why?Adapter wrote:The US has more proven oil reserves than all the rest of the world combined. I don't think what you are claiming is true in comparison with other countries. I don't think many Americans choose to live in other countries. Most Americans don't really travel outside North America much.
In 120 days of backpacking and staying at guesthouses and hostels through 3 different countries here in SE Asia, I met 5 Americans. Compared to hundreds of Aussies, English, etc etc.....

one of the things that kills me about US reserves is that all we can do IS export them... shipping unions have made it so.
unions got laws passed that say that US domestic point to point shipping is required to use US flagged ships. meaning from louisiana (where the crude oil ends up) to the refineries along the east coast is a much more expensive delivery. shipping it to canada to be refined, then shipping BACK the finished product is actually cheaper than doing our own refining... all because of shipping costs.
UAE is claiming at the moment they don't see us as a business threat (i mean oil is like crack, we always need more) but we've definitely put a dent in their canadian exports in the last few years.
