easy folks.
just a quickie asking about the existence of casino's in cambodia.
i seem to remember there being one at the border with poipet but i was thinking specifically in Phnom .
if so ...
what language do they deal in?
is it your standard roulette, black jack and poker?
is it sketchy or a fine place to hangout?
is therre hostess service?
if there isnt one in the capital does anyone know where there are others.
any info would be greatly recieved.
btw just been scouting recent postings, good to see your all keeping busy.
take it easy

Lots of casinos in Poipet and some also in Sihanoukville and on the border with Vietnam. Naga World is the main (only?) one in Phnom Penh. The only one I've actually ever been in is the Holiday Palace in Sihanoukville. I think I've heard that Khmers aren't allowed to enter, but I'm not sure of that. Holiday Palace is a small casino with slots and blackjack. I assume they also have roulette although I can't say I specifically remember it, as roulette is a silly game enjoyed only by ditzy broads and Winston Churchill.
I'd be shocked if any Cambodian casinos had poker, and if so you'd be a fool to play it, unless you know enough Thai, Vietnamese, Khmer, Chinese etc. to be sure that the other players are not openly discussing the content of each other's hands in front of you. Given the variety of languages spoken in the region and the fact that poker does require a single, common language and verbal expressions of the intent to raise, call, etc., it's simply not a viable game for S.E. Asia and is not at all popular there.
With blackjack, I recall the dealers speaking several languages, including English, although of course the standard hand gestures are always understood anywhere. The Holiday Palace casino did not seem terribly sketchy, but there weren't a lot of fun loving people or Westerners hanging out there. I don't recall seeing any hostesses, just female dealers, chain smoking Chinese players, and shady looking pit bosses.
I would be interested to hear more about Naga World from anyone who's been there, as I'm curious if it's a viable place for fun a night out for a Westerner.

Naga is the only real casino in the city. You can play slots and games along Monivong and at the new 999 diagnol from Psah Kandal, but I wouldnt...
Is it sketchy or a fine place to hang out?
It is fine as long as you dont win...
Dealers all speak English, at least the vocabulary of cards, while the clientele is almost exclusively Chinese, as Khmers arent allowed in. Of course, no Khmers, no hostesses. I suggest going with a driver (in a car) that you trust so that if you do manage to win, well, go with a driver in a car. If you just want to play a hundred bucks worth of blackjack, you have nothing to worry about and a motodop will do. It is a legitimate operation and I dont think many get mugged after a night at Naga. No poker, but lots a blackjack, slots, I think two roulette wheels and a few Baccarat tables. Good fun now and again...
