Driving licences for cars
Driving licences for cars
I know you can get bike licenses from places like Lucky Lucky relatively easily, but do they also process applications for car driving licences, and what would I need to get one. Our Mr Fixer in the office was telling me I need a sangkat authorised lease, but i don't have a clue where my sangkat is. How do you find out where your local sangkat is. I live in BKK1.
Lucky Lucky can do; you just need a proper driving license from another country. I give my UK one which they just copy & give back & the Khmer version is back in a few weeks, not sure why this one takes so long (versus their visa service, etc), Lucky Lucky will issue you a piece of paper in the short term in case you get stopped by the boys in blue.

The Phnom Penh City Hall website had a list and map of the sangkat with the offices, but it is down now.scobienz wrote:I know you can get bike licenses from places like Lucky Lucky relatively easily, but do they also process applications for car driving licences, and what would I need to get one. Anyway, that's where the BKKI Sala Sangkat (Sangkat office) is supposed to be: http://yp.com.kh/listings/kh29571-sala- ... eng-kang-i

Insurance. Cars are more expensive than bikes.
Haha - my money’s on Playboy
To be able to hire cars, both here and overseas. As I left the UK so long ago, I only have the old pink UK paper licence. When I wanted to hire a car in Manila a few weeks ago, Avis caused all sorts of shit because they are used to seeing the UK plastic card and in addition the paper licence is no longer valid from June 8th. I eventually managed to persuade Avis to accept it.Biker wrote:The statistics here state that approx 10% of the users on the road have a driving license. So why should you bother.
It's not possible to renew my UK licence, as I don't live there and you need to be resident. My Thai licence expired last year and I can't renew that without living there. My NZ licence expired five years ago. It dawned on me that if I don't get a Cambodian licence, I will have none at all.
A wheelless scobie? What happened to the chauffeured limo that should be part of your basic package?
You should just rent or order a tuk-tuk.scobienz wrote:To be able to hire cars, both here and overseas. As I left the UK so long ago, I only have the old pink UK paper licence. Most travel agents can obtain a driving license for you. I use one on the riverside, its about $35 plus 4 photos, your passport and a "barang licence". You might be lucky with one of your old licenses. If not you can always take the "driving test".scobienz wrote:I know you can get bike licenses from places like Lucky Lucky relatively easily, but do they also process applications for car driving licences, and what would I need to get one. My paper licence is still valid, at least until June. I'll give it a go. Thanks all.
just get a Khmer License, only costs about $250 even if you have to do the whole process.(no license from other country)scobienz wrote:My paper licence is still valid, at least until June. I'll give it a go. Thanks all.
Just a random piece of information I picked up earlier today which may be of interest to the Brits. While the old pink paper licence is no longer valid in the UK from June 8th, those pink paper licences issued before 1998 will remain valid until expiry, according to the DVLA website.

Scobienz, to get a new UK driving license, is there anyway round the UK residency bit? I'm in the same position as you although I lost (misplaced) mine a few years ago and I would love to get a new version for the same reasons as you.
I'm happy to pay a fee to some broker but I don't know where to look.

My posts are just jokes, maybe they're rude, offensive, and politically incorrect. They're not my opinion, viewpoint, idea, or judgement, but they're just fucking jokes so lighten up.
