Safe deposit boxes
Does anyone have any knowledge or experience of banks' safe deposit boxes in Cambodia? I've heard that ACLEADA has boxes at its HQ on Monivong but don't know the details.

Not available to general public, unless something has changed in last few months.

It seems to me there is business potential for secure storage in Phnom Penh for general goods as well as safety deposit boxes.

Shame on you for thinking a bank should offer the services that banks offer.raendi wrote:They laughed me in Canadia Bank when i asked about this.
Some bank (don't remember anymore which) takes A4 documents for safety with a lot $$$.

Let me know if you decide to act on that idea.

Certainly a lot of people ask about it. Personally, I don't think I'd feel comfortable using a secure storage service if it was a Khmer owned business unless there was a system of accounting for the items in storage. For example, a signed receipt listing everything in the storage locker and a compensation agreement if something goes missing.Mr Londo wrote:It seems to me there is business potential for secure storage in Phnom Penh for general goods as well as safety deposit boxes.

I would love to see this type of business open up. What would the business plan be? How big of a place would you rent, about how much would the rent cost, how many lockers could you fit in there and how much could you rent them out for?
Would moneyed Khmers ever use the service, or would the business be targeted almost exclusively to
westerners?
You wouldn't need a place that has walk by traffic and therefore high rent, you'd just need a place on a quiet BKK-ish street kind of located with 10 minutes ride of riverside, BKK1, and Russian Market. Right?

That coffin shop on Riverside would be a great location. And surely a better business for a tourist area than casket sales. Wonder what the lease would be...

I'm sure one of the local security companies would be more than willing to provide a couple of 110 pound teenage narcoleptics.businessclass wrote:What about security, who will you hire to keep all these valuables safe from prospective robbers?

Either of the two coffin shops close to each other on Sisowath Quay area are only suitable for Dead Letter Offices!

Any police officer with authority to carry and use an AK-47. Have you seen any jewelery shops in Phnom Penh? They are allowed (the cops) to take on side work. I have no idea how the average person(foreigner) without Khmer connections would get a contact #. Maybe some of the ol guys here who've been around for a while know?businessclass wrote:What about security, who will you hire to keep all these valuables safe from prospective robbers?
If it were me for example, I'd ask my father in law who is a cop with the Phnom Penh anti trafficking (human) department. He's always got a pistol so I'm sure he'd know a few guys who are allowed to carry the AKs...
