I'm tired of all the hassle involved with buying in drinking water, not to mention carrying the 20L jugs up four flights of stairs. I was thinking of getting one of those Thai charcoal filters - does anyone know if they do a good enough job?
thanks.

Why don't you just buy a load of 20l bottles and have them delivered once a month to your door. Much easier.

We use hi-tech or oral. They're pretty unreliable. The other day they came to deliver a single bottle because they didn't have enough to go around. It's a pain in the butt having to wait around for them to come and then having to tip the guys to bring them upstairs. And storing the bottles takes up space.Bosco wrote:Why don't you just buy a load of 20l bottles and have them delivered once a month to your door. Much easier.
Boiled and bottled (PP) tap water for past ten years, still alive.

I've got a cheapo purifier, does the job fine, best to let tap water settle for a day or so, otherwise a bit chlorine tasting.
In provinces we just boil and drink. Nobody dead yet (from the water).

I use a similar one with water from the well, but I boil it first before putting it through the filter. the 'white stone' in the upper part gets filled up with dirt pretty easily, limiting the flow and thus limiting the amount you can actually purify in 24 hours. Clean it once a month and you'll be fine. Don't expect a nice taste though.reflexline wrote:I'm tired of all the hassle involved with buying in drinking water, not to mention carrying the 20L jugs up four flights of stairs. EDIT: This type:
I attended a food and drink safety conference earlier this year where it was stated that PP water is the second best in Asia (after Singapore). The main problem is its high chlorine content. If you run some into a bucket and leave the lid off, the chlorine evaporates after a few hours. I use this water for all hot drinks (but note that boiling does not eliminate the chlorine if it has not been evaporated). For cold drinks I like Kulen bottled water. So no need for the 20l bottles, that water might be safe but it tastes bad.
The water may be safe...but watch out for the ice

I'm not a negative person, I encourage people all the time...it's usually to f**k off! But, whatever.
Hasn't Phnom Pemh tap water won various awards for it's quality? I don't think you even need to boil it.
We use a combination of 20 litre bottles and the Thai charcoal filters. The stuff in the bottles tastes better.

We used these Rabbit Ceramic filters for years.
We recently switched to those Thai filters they sell in Aeon. We'll probably switch back to the Rabbit filters soon.
