Found some old coins
Any ideas? One is a 200 riel coin the rest one seems Thai the other I am not sure maybe Malay? Why would a Malay coin be under the top soil in Cambodia tough?

Where did you find them?
During the Chinese Ghost Festival, you shouldn't pick up coins and take them to your home. If you do, ghosts from hell will visit your home. It says so on wikipedia, so it must be true.

Taboos
As the ghosts and the suffering spirits will come out from the hell to visit their homes during the 7th lunar month (the ghost month), many things should be avoided during this month including the ghost day.
1. Don't stroll at night. 2. Don't swim. It is said that drowned evil ghosts might try to drown people in order to find victims for them to rebirth. 3. As the month is considered to be inauspicious, don't move to new a house, start new businesses or marry. 4. Don't hang clothes outside at night. 5. Do not pick up coins or money found on the street and if one does, never bring any home. 6. Do not step on or kick the offerings by the roadside. If one were to step on any offerings by accident, her or she should apologize aloud to ameliorate the situation 7. Do not wear red because ghosts are attracted to red. 8. Don't sing and whistle as these may attract ghosts. 9. Keep away from the walls as it is believed that ghosts like sticking to walls. 10. If someone is born during the ghost month, avoid celebrating birthday at night. It's better to celebrate during the daytime.
You might want to have another go at posting the pics of the coins; they don't show them.....jackrossi wrote:on the ground on the land that i am clearing. in kampong cham

Do you think it's a coincidence that the coins around this holiday ? My wife sez the coins are left by the ghosts and whoever picks them up is agreeing to sell them their soul.
There is a way to get out of it before they come for you but I could not understand with my limited khmer language skills sounds complicated and serious.

Oh shit man !!!! get yourself to the nearest wat immediately. You are starting the process of crossing over. The ghosts, evil spirits what ever they are make you see them but to everyone else they are invisible because it's yous soul they own now no one else.jackrossi wrote:i can see the photos, dont you see them?
edit added wife sez take as much money as you can scrape together and don't worry if you don't speak Khmer the monks will know why you are there just by looking at you
