Cost of lawyer?
I only have 1 word to say to you, but I will say it 3 times; run, run, RUN!

When I first read the story I thought, this has got to be a wind-up.
If it's real, a judge might be a better bet than a lawyer.

I was trying to think of a gag about girls in jail, but all I could come up with was an inside joke.
My posts are just jokes, maybe they're rude, offensive, and politically incorrect. They're not my opinion, viewpoint, idea, or judgement, but they're just fucking jokes so lighten up.

First, all of the people telling you to walk or run away are giving you the best advice. I strongly suggest you take it.
If for whatever reason you wish to throw more money away, then LoneStar has the right idea. Don't trust her to find any lawyer. Go to a reputable firm like Sciaronni and Associates. They may not do criminal drug cases but can at least refer you to a reputable Cambodian lawyer that does handle those types of cases. You can pay that lawyer directly to look into the matter for you and report back on what, if anything, can be done. There may not be any decent lawyer in Snooky, so you would have to pay for one based in Phnom Penh to inquire down there or possibly make a trip down there.
Her story sounds suspicious. Considering the amount of drugs openly sold in Snooky and the fact that Snooky cops recently let go a rapist that was caught on video, I'm not sure what the cops are doing going into your friend's room looking for drugs. Just because she appeared alcohol and drug free for a few months in 2013 doesn't mean that it is impossible for her to pick up bad habits since then. If she is drug free but the kind of person that hangs out with the kind of people that would plant drugs on her and get the cops to arrest her and throw her in jail, then $2,000 is definitely not going to fix the problems she has.

It is not the cost of the lawyer that is important, it is the cost of buying the right judgement that counts. Without the right money for that then the money you pay for any lawyer is just a complete waste.
Remember that Cambodia has the best justice system that money can buy.

^^^ I second the above comment.
*any* khmer will do the job - she just needs someone who will negotiate the price with the judge.
But certainly not herself.
First make sure she undrestands the differnce between 200 and 2000 - no joke.
PS: are you sure this was the jail when you last visited her, not a "borei"? they often look alike.

Who cracked the joke about a reputable lawyer in Cambodia? If in trouble paying the investigating judge immediately is the only way, he frames the charge or charges so to speak. Once it gets to court you have to pay three judges, the prosecutor and the clerk-it gets very expensive. Barang prisoners all have stories of lawyers, police or guards who have offered to fix the outcome. Invariably the money disappears and there is no results, even when some people have paid tens of thousands.
Even for something as straightforward as a divorce can cost up to 10K or more, the judicial system is a disgrace of course.

Dude really?
How much "DRUGS" was she caught with? 1000$ should have been enough to walk on if it was just a possession charge.
