Yeah, lovely place Kep. But possibly so quiet and private a place that you have no privacy at all?

A gym in Kep ?
I hear it'll be ready as soon as they complete the landing track for the A380's in Sihanoukville.

I've noticed the "Welcome to the City of Kep" signs by the road. It's a lie. There is no city.mpd wrote:Has anyone noticed a gym there?
It depends a lot on the outsider's disposition. Are the local people friendly to foreigners?
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
I am close friends with quiet. Other than that, anything to watch out for? Anyone ever notice a gym there?
I take it there is little to Kep. My disposition toward others is very good. Other than not speaking the language, I can get along with most anyone -- friendly, easy-going and respectful. My week will be helping school students with English. Am I dreaming but would try to spend my weekends away. Easy to buy a car or motorcycle in Cambodia?

I think there's plenty to it, it just depends on what you want. If you want to chill out with a nice sea-breeze on a jungle-covered hill it's very pleasant.mpd wrote:I take it there is little to Kep.

Easy to buy (no selection), nightmare to maintain (no parts). Every time I go to Kampot I always have a big box of moto parts that my friends ask for since it has NOTHING. I can't imagine Kep having anything more than oil and tyres.mpd wrote:Easy to buy a car or motorcycle in Cambodia?
I've been to Kep 5 times so far and it's nice if you like the beach I guess. I don't know really, I hate the beach so I never stay more than 4-5 hours. I've actually never stayed overnight in Kep so if you're the more anxious fast paced person like me, you'd hate it.

No town and the "beach" is imported sand. I couldn't spend more than a day there.AE86 wrote:Easy to buy (no selection), nightmare to maintain (no parts). I'm not sure you can really call the beach at Kep a beach though can you? More like a kids sandbox.
Hasn't the OP considered trendy Shitsville? It the go to place in Cambodia these days..

OP, follow the sound advise and go and see Kep yourself before you decide to move there. Kep actually is just a very, very small town with very little to do, it's on the seaside but there's no decent beach. Closest beach must be on Rabbit island. Went there once (in the rainy season) and the sea was full with thousands of nasty jellyfish. Not sure if they're always around, but those made my stay on the island boring. Rainy season in Kep can be pretty depressing. Grey skies, low clouds, drizzly rain. This can last a few days before you see the sun again. Finding a room / house for a longer stay might be difficult in Kep, it's not really catering for long stay foreigners. The nice 25$ a night bungalows might not be what you're looking for when teaching children some English since it probably won't suit your budget / salary.
Facilities in Kep are very, very limited. If you like a 10-15 Km drive to get anything you want you can make a regular visit to Kampot to buy your stuff. Road is OK if I remember well.
