Living in Kep
Living in Kep
American guy moving to Kep in April. Questions about life there: finding an apartment, etc. Things to consider before making the leap. Warnings? Good stuff? Bad stuff?
Much thanks for any help.

not easy to find place to live
BUT saying that, was there in Nov visiting gf family,
its the only place i would choose to live if i moved back to Cambodia but you need like peace ( except weekends) and be able to entertain yourself
To really do any market shopping you need head to Kampot

Well...at any rate....if you speak khmer or can find someone who does and are willing to be a little flexible , it is very easy to find houses to rent in Kep. We went through it recently and found quite a few that varied immensely in quality and price.
So, I need transport there. Easy to pickup a motorcycle? Easy to get it legally on the road? What is rainy season like there? Two hours rain in morning, two hours rain in afternoon? Does anyone here know the high school in Kep? I dig up a volunteer opportunity there but can find out little about it on line. The local people friendly to ex pats? Many ex pats there? Any German ex pats? Learning Deutsch and would like to keep at it

kep is very very quiet, you possibly asked more questions than there are expats living full time there to answer them...
"more questions than ex-pats". Maybe not what I wanted for an answer but a great comeback.
It probably has the best French Bakery in Cambodia with real quality products and a very diverse range. As for the rainy season no it rains a lot more than 2 hours at a time more than 2 days at a time is nearer and the rain is heavy.

I would definitely suggest to visit Kep first for a few days, before moving to Kep.
There's not much going on in Kep, on any sector.
Of course it depends completely what you are looking for.
Maybe Kep is just the place you're looking for, or completely ultimate hell on earth.

I don't think anyone said it was bad. It's a beautiful place, but it's very quiet. I would be bored to death there after a few days.mpd wrote:Is it that Bad?
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.

if ur looking for work , its not the place to be
Yes you will need transport, pick up a motorcycle in PP or a car if ur budget allows
rainy season 4-5 months, not all day but .....
I didn't know there was a high school there>
MY gf sister sends her 5 year old son to Kampot for school
also in Kampot is where the bars/western restaurants are, Bars. karaokes and such are not allowed in Kep
I love it cause there some decent roads/trails for mtn biking, there is a small beach and Rabbit island is only 30 minutes away
lots of abandoned villas, great seafood ( although the restaurants are overpriced)
For my lifestyle it is perfect
