Living in Kep
Appears to be a distinct lack of shade on the beach in first photo above. Anyone for toast?
You people go to Kep and step outside of the Knai Bang Chatt/Sailing Club Compound? Are you mad?

What is the nearest place to get anything like food and such? Kampot? Or domeplace closer? Yeah, my living budget is null so 25$ a night bungalows are out if the question. Can live at the school but believe that will get old quickly. Was hoping to find a cheap flat somewhere in the vicinity. I read lots about night buses but are they OK during the day?

Dude, it's pretty much a rural area with a few villages around. There aren't too many apartments. Have a look at Google Earth street-view or something just to get a handle on what you are dealing with. There are of course always other options, but you'll have to be on the ground to find them.mpd wrote: Was hoping to find a cheap flat somewhere in the vicinity.

Well, I guess that's best -- get there and figure it out. I did Streetview and, ya, ain't much there. Well, I am expected back in Germany in six months so believe I can deal with anything. I am there to work during the week and will travel weekends. Quiet is OK but thanks for the warnings.
Are you really trying that hard to be a wanker, or do you think that you are funny?GMJS-440 wrote:You people go to Kep and step outside of the Knai Bang Chatt/Sailing Club Compound? Are you mad?

Kep is very nice but as everyone has said...not much to do. If you do not cycle actively or cannot ride a moto or do not plan to buy a car I would almost forget it as you will really need one of those to get around and fully explore and enjoy. The place is a cluster fuck of the highest order come public holidays as every douche canoe with a lexus decamps to kep to have their big day by the sea. At the end of the day Kampot is a very short drive away and the road is now a 5 lane highway so you can always go up there for your jollies. YOu might even want to base yourself in kampot towards the Villa Vedici end of town on the river. Easier to find rentals too. Or.......PSD Kiwi might let you camp on his riverside spread if you ask nicely and leave his sheep alone. Only problem with Kampot is the Kampats. They are all plonkers.

Good info. I take it Kampats are ex-pats, right? I will try to avoid them. Good idea, though, live in kampot and travel to Kep.

Can I get what I need to live in Kampot (food)?

IT has probably changed but a few years back you could not get anything by way of "luxury foods" in Kampot and by that I just mean the stuff you take for granted being able to buy in any supermarket in PP. Good cheese, deli meats, olives, indian foods, decent fruit and Veg, condiments etc etc. Others would know better the situation now but one thing i really need is access to that kind of stuff IF i want it - if not at my fingertips then a shortish ( less than 20 min ) drive. I am not a food snob and can survive on the basics but when i want it........i want it.
