Water tanks
Water tanks
I've never lived anywhere where rooftop water tanks were needed so please excuse my ignorance. Can anyone tell me what size and why one would get a stainless or plastic tanks? A ballpark price would also be appreciated. Thanks.

It's so the water can keep running even if the main supply is cut, or if too many taps/showers/toilets etc are being used at the same time.

That would be 5000L I guess? I bought a 2000L plastic for about 150 USD in the Northeast about 2,5 years ago. Be careful with these watertanks, their footprint is pretty small (usually less than 1 M2) and most plain concrete floors here are only designed for 1 ton of pressure per M2. If you buy a tank over 1000L you might want to inforce the floor or put it on a strong (metal) stand.LexusSchmexus wrote:The price ranges quite a bit depending on the size. From memory, roughly $250 for a large (500L) plastic one.
Another reason for a tank is their might no running water available in the area, or the water available is just water pumped up from a stream, in which case you might prefer (deep) groundwater over water from a stream coming from god-knows-where....
Guess it will last longer in the burning sun. Over time the plastic ones will eventually crumble.Drg wrote:Thanks. Is there a good reason to buy a stainless tank?

Probably right kachang. I bought a few of them a while back, but can't remember the exact sizes. Most newer plastic ones have a 10 year warranty, so no issue with them crumbling out in the sun. The stainless steel ones are a bit pricier, but not by much (I just prefer the look of the plastic ones). One thing to note is that ideally, they require a bit of periodical maintenance (draining/cleaning out).
