I've used Agoda for years and have had no problems with them at all. While they seem to cost a bit more than Booking.com according to others, they also give you credit for each booking not unlike frequent flyer points and that can be used to pay for bookings.
Hotels.com is the best generic hotel booking site, they have good prices, a decent website and I have booked hundreds of nights through them with no problems. Stay 10 nights and get one night free (average value) when you register on the site.
Agoda is shite, used them a few times then they demanded a scanned copy of my passport and credit card after I made three separate bookings in one day.
Took me a couple of weeks to sort that out, e-mails, phone calls, bullshit from their reps, then I got an e-mail from a "manager" apologising and saying that my account and card were no longer blocked. Problem sorted, but I never used them again.
Worth checking out the Accor(*) website and enrolling as a member, you earn points that can be credited against future bookings, and they have occasional private sales.
With any of these sites it is worthwhile using a referral site such as Quidco which can earn you cash back.
(*)Accor is Ibis, Mercure, Novotel, Sofitel etc.

There are ostensibly only two online hotel consolidators now - Priceline Group (Agoda, Booking.com, Priceline, & Kayak) and Expedia Inc ( Expedia, Hotels.com, Travelocity, Orbitz, Venere, Cheap Tickets, Rates To Go, Trip Advisor, Home-Away, Trivago, Wotif, Hotwire, etc, etc, etc) Why they were allowed to eat all their competitors except one in the last couple years baffles me. It's so obviously anti-competitive and has resulted in a real lack of nice deals out there now. All the prices are pretty much the same. The fun has gone out of the game.

check out travel now, asia travels
there plenty out there but rates are very similar.
True there is little competition any more ( unlike when i started with Planet holiday - Now Agoda) back in 99
NO ONE will be cheaper than agoda/booking online. its in their contract

I don't like agoda on principle, I hate the hidden costs that spring up at the last second. Booking.com is pretty good, hard to beat rates and their "secret deals" can be real bargains.
Otoh I also check out airbnb, you can usually find a much larger place for the same budget as a hotel room.

booking.com does this also now. They also have secret deals you can find by having an account with them. I recently booked a couple of nights in a hotel in Manila. By using the secret deal I got the same room for $40 a night cheaper than the original price.Jacked Camry wrote:they also give you credit for each booking not unlike frequent flyer points and that can be used to pay for bookings.

.......Front line price maybe. The other guys have discount codes out there though. Hotels.com is usually within a dollar or two of Agoda and they do one night free on ten all the time. Expedia & Travelocity have best rate guarantees that gives you $50 credit if you find anyone cheaper and they match. Man, I worked those to death years back and then I'd cancel the reservation. Nothing wrong with Agoda, I've booked 100s of nights with them, but it's best to compare and there's many look alike sites to do that.Phuket2006 wrote:check out travel now, asia travels

Agoda is a con , having checked the hotels own web site the room they are quoting as being 68$ original price is actually 29$! False advertising at least.
k440, something to do when you're pissed.

You CAN NOT Blame Agoda;horace wrote:Agoda is a con , having checked the hotels own web site the room they are quoting as being 68$ original price is actually 29$! False advertising at least.
Each hotel/villa is responsible for setting its own prices in the back end.
Agoda NEVER adjusts the prices.

What about Airbnb? No good for the odd destination??

The "Secret Deals" on these websites are merely a mechanism to make you sign into the site so they know who you are, and what you are checking.
Then they can personalise the spam mail that they send you.

More an more people are using airbnb ( or https://www.roomorama.com/) and hotels are even complaining their losing customers.
PLUS many listings on airbnb do not pay the hotel tax

Been wondering if the hotels are shitting themselves about the likes of Airbnb.
I guess all you need is a spare room (that's likely nicer than a hotel room), no staff , no real overheads...

ANZ will give you an extra 10% discount if you have their visa card! But generally I'd say you'll get better deals on AirBnB for what you're looking for.horace wrote:I've never used but their prices seem unbelievable . For example, looking at one hotel which i know is in the location I want to be in it quotes room rate 78$ per night but if one books with Agoda this comes down to 25$!Are the original prices true? If I just turn up at the hotel and show the price quoted by Agoda would I get a similar reduction?
Cheers in advance for any useful replies
