Always wondered why tuk tuk drivers would bother you when you're clearly on a bike.
I just thought they were idiots, in a nice way.
Moving from Thailand
Clubbar is an idiot. Riding a bike in Pp is easy esp if you're an experienced rider. I have been doing it everyday when I'm in town. Faster than cars when it's gridlocked, safer than bikes as you're slower and have more height and of course way cheaper.
Bought my bike near orussei for about $45, invested in a real lock brought back from Europe to avoid it being stolen like the previous one, and no regrets.

That's what I like to hear! I wear a high visibility reflector vest over my shirt. After 12 years, there is a big difference in how other vehicles treat me with or without the vest on. Sure, some take unnecessary risks to rush to get to the red light but many many others do give me more space and respect. Similar to someone in a wheelchair.logos wrote:Clubbar is an idiot. Vast majority yes, but increasingly the progeny of the rich love a bit of cycling.gavinmac wrote:It's not polite to shout "TROLL!" at newbies just because you disagree with them. Face it, the vast majority of Thais and Cambodians have no interest in riding a bicycle, wouldn't want to be seen riding a bicycle, and perceive bicycle riders as lower in class than car riders and motorcycle riders.
Flying Bikes guy reckons the bicycle branch does more turnover with better margin than the moto branch. I can believe this. Some of those Cannondale bikes are thousands.
I agree with the others, Phnom Penh is a fine city to bike in. Try cycling in Yangon if you think PP is bad.

AI agree -I came to PP wit my wife and we decided both that cycling in Phnom Penh is going to be better than car or moto. It's simply easier and faste... although I agree, maybe not safer.
Same same as Thailand.
Dan - we should compare notes a I am moving from Thailand in June.
Anyone know any home demanagement companies they recommend?

Phuket,
Where would you recommend staying in Phuket?
I've been down Nai Harn/Rawai was nearly a decade ago, but I'm sure the entire place has changed over the years.

You can live for a very long time in Thai doing border runs
You have to live in the south though to do it with almost zero cost..Hat Yai springs to mind
I assume you get 1 month on arrival.
If so, the cost per trip is only 110 baht
New passport every 2 years or so...btw there are two crossings near to each other so you won't become a 'nuisance' to the immigration monkeys
If SHTF continue to Penang for a tourist visa...but this only as a last resort
I assume u know that Malaysia charges zero money to get in.
I would never live in N Thailand for that reason alone..let alone that it sucks anyway
PS I have been doing this for donkey years

I live in kamala and have since 1998 an love it here,
gets few tourists outside the high season ( which btw seems to have ended early this year)
I haven't been down to Rawai, Nah Harn as chao fa road is a mess from town all the way to Chalong
The bypass road from the boat lagoon to Central intersection and down to Chalong is a sheer mess since they started construction 2 years ago.

i have driven thru 5 Malay/thai borders
u wont get 30 days visa exempt land crossing unless ur a member from a G7 country ( others only get 15 days) and than after 2 in 6 months or so that's it
Most embassies will issue 3 back to back tourist visas than "suggest" you go elsewhere

I only heard of Kamala a few days ago because I noticed a few YouTube bloggers live there.
Now that I think about it, the drive from Nai Harn to Patong was quite far so I guess it's a big place.
My mate stayed in Chalong a while ago and said its pretty built up these days.
Going to Samui first, but might check it out because it had more of an island vibe to Samui.
