Hello,
I've stayed in 136 area of PP for a few weeks and I absolutely loved it (although I was just partying). Aside from the 136/GSM areas, I'm not familiar with much else.
I have been in Bangkok for 7 months now but am unhappy with it. I know it's safe, good infrastructure etc. but I personally have found the Thais hard to connect with, the normal women difficult/boring to talk to or date, and the "hostess" girls to be overpriced for what you get. Also I'm a HUGE fan of the herbal supplement, and have been extremely unhappy with Thailand on that front.
I wouldn't mind working or making a little extra money if I found a ok position, but I don't have to. I could easily live for a year on $1500 USD with no job and be ok.
If you were in my position, would you start in PP or SR?
The only issue for me is I'm a photographer and often have a camera bag. I know that creates a safety issue in certain parts, but again I have not been out of the tourist areas of PP so I don't know what it would be like in say, BKK1. If it weren't for the obvious street crime issue I would move to PP in a heartbeat.
Chilling in Cambo for 6 - 12 months - SR or PP?
I hope you mean $1500 a month...or $15000 for a year?
I'm not a negative person, I encourage people all the time...it's usually to f**k off! But, whatever.
I've never had my various cameras stolen here, whether in bag or otherwise.
1500 per month is fine if you're frugal in the right places. Renting in BKK1 might not be wise, given you can get good accommodation anywhere in the city cheaper, and without the Lexus set choking up the roads morning noon and night dripping their kids to Montessori and supping brown's coffees while triple parked on a 2 lane street.

Low budget, likes drugs, likes GSM-type sleazy bars, why hasn't he moved to Sihanoukville already?

I think Siem Reap would be ideal for a photographer, with all the cultural sights and exotic nightlife etc. It's safe to go to all the bars there with cameras etc. Don't bother with Phnom Penh, your camera will be stolen in ten minutes.

longest ive ever stayed in PP is around 10 days, 4 or 5 is usually enough for me, its not the kind of place to chill, or maybe im just too used to sihanoukville, and my idea of chilling being sat on a nice beach with a cold beer, if you want to go mongering SR is shit and you will get bored quick as theres not enough on offer i only managed to live there before because i had a missus

I would say stay away from SR.
Kind of place you make money rather than spend it.
If you don't like the city, move to Sihanoukville. Or if you are only moving for drugs go to Vang Vieng in Laos.

Thanks for the replies. Yes I mean around $1500 per month.
Sounds like I will have to see Snooky and Battambang for myself. SR sounds like it would get boring quick. I'm afraid Snooky wouldn't have enough to keep me interested, but who knows, if there's enough cheap "entertainment."
Phnom Penh I absolutely loved, just a little put off by the whole "crime wave" thing that's happening now.
About Battambang - are we talking occasional backpacker parties or is it a permanent scene? I do like EDM

I do like the women as well. Laos sounds like a no-go on that front.

PP: walked everyday i lived in pp with my camera, day time/night time, everywhere, never any trouble
still do when ever i happen to be in town.
Love the temples but $20 /day its expensive. ( even at $40 for 3) and you need transport as well
$1,500 is easy, Nice 1 bedroom accom across the tonle sap for under $600 ( or less on the city side)
$10-15/day for food ( easily done)
rest for fun and .......
going out every night the first couple of weeks maybe but thna u'll find its boring as hell
bar girl side- what ur name, how long you stay, buy me drink, play pool?
Expats
talking the same shit to people that dont want to hear it, but want you to listen to their shit
Travel keeps ya sane

Sure, but that was before the giant crime wave.
