Have many people moved to Cambodia from Thailand since the crackdown on Visa's
Been out of Thailand for over a year, was going to return but found out about the new Visa rules, no double entry Tourist Visas anymore, so I am thinking travelling to Cambodia for an extended stay instead, Spent 5 weeks in Phnom penh before, I liked it, then maybe go to Thailand for a few months each year.
So anyone else in the same boat, can you still get the Business visa for Cambodia, and has anything changed in PP in the past 4 years?

^^^^ I agree. It looked like there was going to be a mass exodus the way the junta was cracking down a while back. Then they completely reversed course with the 6 month tourist visa. Combine that with the drop in the baht - why leave ?

NO, NONE.
It is well known that Cambodian authorities are refusing visas on barang passports with multiple Thai visas in them. Spread the word.

Bound to have a minor effect given that you can only get the METV back in your home country and even then have to provide banking and work support to get the visa. This assumes that there is a parallel crackdown on regular border hoppers or other means of staying long term for non retirees or those that can't meet the requirements. From memory the new METV visa is around double the cost of the old visa, so combined with all the new paperwork and a trip home, I can see a few diehard bottom feeders being forced to up sticks and head somewhere else in the region, Cambodia being the obvious choice.

it seems Australia is really easy giving the the METV an even there have been reports of non Australians getting them
also same in US,
the METV is around $150-200
a double before was around $80 but only single entry each time
This new visa is really aimed at someone coming to SE Asia and wants to use Thailand as a hub for traveling around ( for the life of me cant understand why they would pay for it and not use visa exempts which are free)
the crackdown has only affected those trying to get double /triple entries in Laos and those trying to stay using visa exempt entries

Agreed that they are the main long- termers affected, but I would also say that's not an insignificant amount of people, the bread and butter of the hundreds of visa buses heading to the various borders daily. If neighbouring embassies start issuing METV's then the whole Visa change would be rendered pointless.Phuket2006 wrote:

Then why does the Royal Cambodian Embassy call it a Business visa on their website?

"Extension Visa
Your visa can be extended while you are in Cambodia. Diplomatic (A), Official (B) and Courtesy (C) visas can be extended at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
The Business (E) Visa can be extended for one month, three months, six months or twelve months ( can be single or Multiple entries ) at the Immigration Department in front of Phnom Penh Airport ).
The Tourist (T) visa can be extended for one month only at the Immigration Department in front of Phnom Penh Airport)."

Many people still refer to the E-type (Ordinary) Visa as a Business Visa...however, no where on the visa application forms does it say Business Visa, take a look at the VOA Application Form in the linked thread below...this has been the case since at least 2011. If people keep referring to it as a business visa, then new comers are only going to get confused when applying for a visa.XX wrote:Then why does the Royal Cambodian Embassy call it a Business visa on their website?chkwoot wrote:There is no such thing as a "business visa" in Cambodia.

The Cambodian Embassy of Washington, USA, website also does not state that 1 & 3 month extensions are single entry only, and that it's only 6 & 12 month visa extensions that are multi entry.

Because providing high quality, accurate information is not a priority for them. Same same as for most government departments anywhere in the world.XX wrote:

It was renamed ordinary visa not too long ago XX. It's likely the embassy website isn't updated too often.
