Mongol General: What is best in life?
Conan: To crush your enemies, to see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of their women.
Mongol General: That is good!

Near both the big mosques in Chroy Changvar, one is on riverside- the other one street back. There are big Cham market streets there that you will get all Halal goods.
I like the Chams, and live among them. A clean, industrious and quiet people who mind their own business and speak ill of no one.
The fucking Salafists are here spreading their perversions with their money.
You will see the burqaa, to the detriment of the upright and tolerant Cham who are being courted by overseas extremists.
A real pity to see; it changed Islamic culture in a decade to my personal knowledge in Indonesia.
Formerly a very tolerant society outside of politics.

I'd ask the Cham across the river. Or some at certain markets. Speak Khmer to get it fresh.
Or frozen from NZ? Or was that lamb?

Yeah, I think the general consensus on this thread was that Chams do all the goat and sheep herding here, and they also do nearly all the slaughtering. There used to be a big slaughterhouse just across the river on Chruouy Changva, somewhere between Norton University's Batman HQ and the PPWSA waterworks on the Mekong. It's probably still there. I know plenty of Chams. I've only met one who was an abattoir worker. His hands were all screwed up like lobster claws, he said it was from all the stomach acid of cows he'd killed and chopped in his formative years. He was a great singer, but obviously had to keep his hands hidden a lot of the time. He lamented to me about how no woman would ever marry him. He killed a goose for our dinner in the boonies one time, got it to calm down and look away (apparently this is important), then slit it's throat and bled it. It didn't seem any crueler than wringing it's neck.Conan the Mongol wrote:I'd ask the Cham across the river. Or some at certain markets. Speak Khmer to get it fresh.
In Theravada Buddhism there is no real prohibition on eating meat, but there's a taboo about killing anything yourself, and at least for monks, nothing should be specifically killed for you. At the same time monks are not allowed to refuse any food, and vegetarianism doesn't come into that if you are wandering around a Cambodian neighborhood with a bowl. The Buddha specifically said that anyone who has special dietary demands like is Lactose-intolerant or Gluten-free could sling their hook.
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
