Hello there, I can not find a topic on this but I want to find out more on this issue for the future.
Recently on Facebook I read a rant about this American living in Canada having to still pay American taxes. Does anyone have any experience with this here in Cambodia?
If I have to pay American taxes on my work here in KH, can I just ignore it? Will the State Department revoke my passport? And if my passport is revoked, is it easy to just pay a little extra to still have my passport visa extended?

Make sure you file a return each year....or you are setting yourself up for a big headache. There is currently a bill before Congress that would allow the govt. to seize passports for back taxes.....hope it never comes to pass.

Tucked inconspicuously beneath Title XXXII, Subtitle A (Tax Provisions), you’ll find that Section 32101, which governs “revocation or denial of passport in case of certain unpaid taxes,” has been amended by the addition of Section 7345, which is even more specific: “revocation or denial of passport in case of certain tax delinquencies.” In other words, the IRS is working with the Department of State to determine whose passport applications should be denied, or whose existing passports should be taken away. You could belong in that category if you owe more than $50,000 in unpaid back taxes, including penalties and interest, if a notice of levy or lien has already been filed. (Of course, the $50,000 figure will be adjusted each year to account for inflation.)
