What happens at the Bavet border crossing when entering from Vietnam/Moc Bai by bus?
I ask because, when I did the same trip the other way around (Bavet to Moc bai), the bus (Giant Ibis) guide just collected all of our passports, and we got them back stamped with Vietnamese entry permits. Didn't have to personally talk to a Vietnamese immigration officer at all.
Is it the same with Cambodian immigration, or do you have to talk to the immigration officers?
And what happens if you already have a business visa acquired from a Cambodian embassy, do they just stamp you in for 30 days, do they demand a bribe. Details please.

There's no reason they would want a bribe, though the bus companies usually ask for $5 extra or so to get you the visa.
If you already have a valid multiple entry visa, just give it to the bus boy and show them your valid visa. They'll either take it and you go wait in line, grab your passport when called and get back on the bus, or they'll tell you to walk through on your own, in which case, get to the front of the line and go through like you would at any border crossing. Get your exit stamp, then get your entry stamp. With a valid visa, they've got no leverage to ask for a bribe.

It's a brand new visa so it should be valid for 1 month right? I paid $35 for it (going to pick it up in a few hours).epidemiks wrote:There's no reason they would want a bribe, though the bus companies usually ask for $5 extra or so to get you the visa.

Multi entry is arranged inside Cambodia by extension.

The only people I've seen pay tea money at that crossing are the local Vietnamese or Chinese gambling tourists who chuck a few bucks into their passports to get taken care of ahead of the bus groups.

Ah righto. I figured you were re-entering on an existing multi-entry visa. New visa, no problem. Just walk through and get your stamps.brownexile wrote:It's a brand new visa so it should be valid for 1 month right? It's not same on Cambodian side, it's normal border crossing:brownexile wrote:the bus (Giant Ibis) guide just collected all of our passports, and we got them back stamped with Vietnamese entry permits. Didn't have to personally talk to a Vietnamese immigration officer at all.

- Off the bus
- Fill out entry and customs paper
- Go to immigration officer
- Get stamp and walk in to the Kingdom
They just stamp in - no bribes.brownexile wrote:And what happens if you already have a business visa acquired from a Cambodian embassy, do they just stamp you in for 30 days, do they demand a bribe. Details please.
Pardon my engrish, thanks you.
I've done this trip a fair bit so far this year and have multi entry visas for both countries and have not had any issues either way just give your passport to the bus boy and he sorts it all no extra payment required. I use Sorya transport, not because they're great but it's a no bull shit service dominated by locals..and they will pretty much drop me outside my home in HCMC

Done it many times both ways, no bribes, just a nuisance. The Ibis sounds good if ya don't have to get off the bus..cheers
