Price to register/get license for a motorcycle
How much do get papers and license for a small motorbike? I was quoted $80 by the dealer, but that seems quite steep. I know the Prey Leap location and have been there before, but have never gone through the process myself. Assuming I buy a small bike, then what do I need? Import tax papers and bill of sale? Then go wait in line at Prey Leap? How much does it cost? I should also do it for one of my big bikes (been postponing for ages), but given that I only ride it off-road I've never bothered so would likely do two bikes at once. I'm willing to pay $80 for a fixer if it takes a full day of waiting and general administrative bullshit in the dust and heat. However, I'm guessing the real cost is around $10 or so, so could be an interesting experience.
Real cost is $20 for a plate and ID for a moto for a Khmer plus not sure how much it would be for a barang.
Is this the first rego or are you hoping to transfer it across? The latter sounds like a right pain but if its a new rego you need bill of sale, tax paid certificate, and proof of address from your sangat.
I've heard a fixer can do it all without a sangat think but I don't know first hand.
.
Alternatively why don't you register it in a Khmer's name? Simpler and cheaper.
It doesn't really matter who's name its in.

pew, pew, pew, pew!
I was quoted $50 earlier this year for PP plate and papers to my name by a local freelance importer for an imported big twin motorcycle from Japan that had only import papers. The accommodating chap stressed that it was cheaper for khmer motorcycle owners (evidently).

Thanks guys. I was told $25 for khmers in the city and $35 in the countryside. Seems like $45 is what it cost for foreigners. I might be willing to go there myself with two bikes and get it over with. I'd be willing to pay the $80 for the scooter (though they didn't mention anything about sangkat papers). Problem is, I would still need to go at some point for the other bike, so might as well try to do them both at once. I have an in of sorts, so it might cut the time. What kind of matter do you need from the sangkat? Proof of address/lease/soft title I guess?

The 'One Window Service Office' does them. For plate and card ? From what I gathered I just needed G'dah Pon (tax paper) and my Khmer drivers licence, which had some random address on it from Lucky 3.
Theres one on the corner of MTT and 163.
Price - no idea - I had on a plate from another bike when I rode in, and no tools to take it off - I was figuring between 20 and 40 bucks. Cost me 30 all up in Battambang years ago for a new bike - including helpers fee of 10.

Done this couple times.
Get residence letter from Sangkat. Took a fixer first time and he well known to them. All done in half an hour and paid something like 10000 riel. Gave him 20 bucks as saved lot hassle and landlord a bottle whisky for finding him. In hindsight too much but never done before and this to register newly imported bike. Then over the river and think it was about 40. Got reg card and plate about month later. So all in about 70.
Most recently was to transfer bike from previous owner. Went Sangkat on my own. Paid 20 bucks under protest with usual carp about the girl on desk not getting the cash but guys upstairs. Took couple days to get letter. Then over the river. Took lad from a bike shop and he put me in a touch with fixer who registers their bikes. Bit of a rigmarole but think was something like 15 bucks to the fixer including paying counter fees. Gave lad from bike shop a tenner for coming over. Went back about 5 weeks later to collect New reg card. They spelt my first name wrong and pointed this out but was told no problem. We'll see as and when I try to cross a border on it. So all in 45.
Note - new reg cards no longer have your photo on. Plus I was told it would cost me 120 bucks second time by the girl in bike shop I borrowed the pad from. Must remember to tell her boss who's a.mate of mine.
