Anyone have experience getting USA visa for their gf?
Anyone have experience getting USA visa for their gf?
A tough visa of course... I will be moving to the USA temporarily, and want to get a visa for my girl friend to visit, at least for a while.
Tourist visa seems the most logical one, but I have no experience or idea how hard it is to get.
Student visa would be another one, and she would have to enroll in a school to get that one. Not sure if that's easier or more difficult than a tourist visa.
Does anyone know what the Embassy is looking for on these? It seems her relationship with me doesn't make any difference for this type of visa.
Thanks in advance for your experience, info, etc.

We are about a third of the way through a K1 visa. PM me or ask on here, I will try to answer both. Right now we are awaiting the approval of our i-129f petition. Next, the police n single certs + interview time and a few more forms.palm_tree wrote:A tough visa of course... Edit- Regarding a tourist visa. Depending upon your girl's age (older the better in this case), finances, assets tying/linking her to Cambodia(proving she'll come back) and other things, a tourist visa is very hard to receive.
Owning a tangible business and property is great

I have been through the process twice with my wife for a tourist visa....and it is not that complex. You go online, fill out a form, deposit the application fee at a nearby bank, and then make an appt. for an interview.
They will assume that she intends to overstay her visa, and you must be able to convince them otherwise by demonstrating her ties to Cambodia. If she has: property, money, a business.....and has never been involved in prostitution, she should do fine. You may also need to demonstrate that you have ample funds to provide for her while she is visiting.
I would suggest you make a book. In that book, document your relationship, foreign trips you have taken together, get letters from family back home, maybe letters from some prominent local expats, copies of property titles, pictures of any houses/property......and whatever else you can put in there to build your case. Having said that....after I put this book together and even had it tabbed out.......they never looked at it. But, I would still have her go in loaded for bear. She should know details about you and details about your family....and no matter what, she should not lie.
Filling out the application is easy, the fee is not prohibitive....so give it a shot. If they reject her, I think they will eventually relent down the road with future attempts.
Good luck.

DM and Lonestar,
Thanks for your replies. Unfortunately my girlfriend only has a good job and some land in the province. She has a mother and brother and some other slightly more distant relatives. She has a good job but it's not good enough to save up a lot of money.
I could transfer some money into her bank account to demonstrate that she has enough money but it seems that would be pretty transparent.
We should know each other well as we have been living together for quite a while. I'll try to book that you mentioned with a range of "evidence" in it.
I guess it's just about trying it and seeing how it goes!
Please let me know if you have any more insights....

Embassies look at how long such moneys have been there, and look for a saving pattern.I could transfer some money into her bank account to demonstrate that she has enough money but it seems that would be pretty transparent.

DO NOT attempt to fool or deceive a consular officer about the financial history of your girl. Unless you want to get her red flagged and never allowed in. Also, you might get into trouble.palm_tree wrote:DM and Lonestar,

That land maybe enough. If she gets rejected first time and 2nd time, try a 3rd time. Trust me when I say that I know of people who didn't get an immigration visa right away for negative reasons (officer didn't believe realness of relationship) and finally got her visa on 3rd go.

I am confused as to what to do with Morticia. We have an event to attend in the USA next March in NYC. We are engaged/married here in Cambodia and have Pubert, obviously, but we don't have official marriage paperwork of any kind. At this time, we have no plans to live in the USA. If I go the K1 Visa route and say, we get it and get a civil marriage in the USA, what happens then later when we want to visit the USA again? We are NOT petitioning for a green card for her.
Or do I just go for a tourist visa and hope for the best? We won't be taking Pubert with us this first trip, but they won't really care and they will likely assume she is lying about that since he has a USA passport. Confused as I have no idea really about USA visa stuff, never had to worry about it before and I wasn't a consular officer back in the day. Meh.

Does that happen to women with Western guys, or only to Khmers suspected of perpetrating some kind of fake engagement visa fraud? Why would a Western guy sponsor a woman for a spousal visa unless there was a real relationship?

I have heard of marriage scams among Khmer-Americans. I've never heard of a white American guy marrying a Cambodian woman for money. Dee anyone know of any Americans (other than Khmer-Americans) who ever did this? How much money did they get?
Did they go through with marrying the woman, living with her for two years so that she could get a green card, etc.?

Because the going rate for a fake marriage is 30k. And yes, I do know someone, but it kinda worked out in the long run, as they stayed together, but the original motivation was for pay.gavinmac wrote:DetroitMuscle wrote: Trust me when I say that I know of people who didn't get an immigration visa right away for negative reasons (officer didn't believe realness of relationship)

she needs stay in the us for 2 years after your married to keep it active OR she can apply fora Parole, which would allow her to leave for up to one year,
you can only do that once. if she fails the 2 years , its back to square one, as soon as ur married u apply for the green card
IF she has solid ties as stated above, ( a good job, business, property, Family, healthy bank account) go the tourist route
if ur daughter ( my daughter was 3 and she had a us passport) has a US passport it would really help ur wife to get the K1 or tourist visa
ON the other hand i know quite a few married couples here and there thai wifes have 10 year multi entry visas to the states but all have business, money, land and ties here.

Morticia doesn't want US citizenship, so I suppose K1 is out as we have no intention of applying for a Green Card, living in US, etc.. Just visit once a year, visa permitting, thus my question to the best course to pursue. So it seem perhaps tourist visa, be prepared, and hope for the best.
