Catching rats
I had a rat in my bird shed last night. Pulled a few baby quail through the wire and chewed bits off. There were wings, legs and half eaten bits all over the pen this morning. Hate the things.

Yes they can get huge! The one that has been doing raids in our kitchen is like a small cat...well, big enough to knock the biggest jar of Vegemite off the food pantry shelf! And they get smarter as they grow bigger and older. This one won't go near the glue traps at all regardless of where you put them and how many you use. It's also too big for the catch-alive traps...keeps setting it off but no rat, it's too big!JJones wrote:I am just curious about the rats people are finding inside their apartments. How big are they? Do you know what species? From my experience the big ones tend to stay outdoor. At night on the Riverside I have seen them as big as horses, okay not that big but very large.
Wounded him real bad last night with a neck breaker trap...blood and fur everywhere but still no rat...too big to be held in the trap! Don't think it will come back now, hopefully it's dead or close to it!

python, around 8', will take care of any rat.
Alternatively (no pun) if you know his path, connect some copper wire to it and plug it in, uno fried rat
Or just have a hungry Khmer stay over, LOL

Yeah, I've been thinking about getting one to keep on the boat in Sihanoukville. Do you think a python would be territorial and stay put, or wander off around the marina?RainMan wrote:Can vouch for the good old python, in Oz the Carpet python, (up to 3 meters) even their crap is a deterrent.vladimir wrote:python, around 8', will take care of any rat.

Depends on the food source/warmth I would guess but from pers experience, territorial yes. The one we had in the ceiling stayed for years but her offspring never returned to claim space.
Never mind.

We had rats going nuts in our room for the soup noodle packages. Couldn't keep them away. I asked the OM to help in catching the Rat. He wanted to move us. As we were in an upgraded suite, I suggested that the rat would still need to be dealt with, so we could work together. (big fukker too!) So he came back with a pail lid, spread that thick glue on it and placed a breakfast sausage in the middle.
I went for a nap. Before I fell asleep, that stinker was pathetically stuck. I didn't want to deal with it and had a nice afternoon sleep. But not before texting my lady about what was in front of the door, and to get the staff to come with her to take it away.
That poor animal struggled enough to move about 6 ft across the floor.
If I was the one disposing of that, I would drown it.

The problem with the world is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?
