Catching rats
I used the glue trap, worked well. You just need an idea of where they tend to get in the home and place it close by.
The morning murder of the trapped rat is the downside.

I've just sat, over coffee, and watched 3 rats feast on the carcass of a bird on a neighbours roof.
Clearly what you need is a dead bird. So just catch a bird, kill it and use it as bait.

Last night I was the victim of a extremly vicious and callous attack by the enemy...totally unprovoked!
I was woken by the sound of something large breaking in the kitchen. The carnage is still etched in my mind...my big jar of Vegemite broken and all over the floor! The scene was horrific.
I have been in contact with the Australian embassy about the attack and the loss of Vegelife. They immediately deployed a forensic team to the scene...its was very emotional and vengeance was heavy in the air!
Then I was given my mission from the top brass at the Embassy to " Terminate the attacker with extreme prejudice".
It's war now!
Have returned with the full arsenal of weapons now... A brand new neck breaking rat trap fine tuned with a hair trigger and bacon for the bait. Fresh juicy dried fish for the "take prisoner trap" and last but not least the pink cubes,in case I need to "Nape the whole mess".
No Australian should see what I saw last night...a 8$ jar of Vegimite all over the floor in Cambodia!
The horror,the horror,the horror.
Over and out.

In the jungles of Toul Kork I just use the glue traps strategically positioned wherever the rodent likes to run (no bait req'd). First up I'd recommend finding which food stuff you've got out in the open that the vermin is trying to get to - follow the rodent poo trail. I was surprised to find my critter tucking into dried spaghetti sticks in a cupboard and still in its packaging - I set one trap in there. If you've disturbed the critter, you can see where it likes to make an escape to, simply lay a trap along that wall or doorway and wait for the next time..

I've caught a few smaller ones in the glue traps. This one is special,I know it's the same one because the pattern is always the same...Always hits the same spot around the same time. It's days are number now...the Vegemite was the final straw for war!

Glue traps and PB,set ON their runs. At least 4 at once. Freshen the bait daily.
When I catch two on seperate traps I close them like a sandwich, and stomp.

Never had a problem with rats, and my rent is cheap. It probably helps living off the ground, and having a nazi-maid as wife.
^ I concur. Cats and little dogs work wonders.YaTingPom wrote:Cat or a dog, terrier types are best.
We've a great ratter dog at our place. (Also catches lizards and frogs)
It dumps them in front of my house and I have to bin them before they rot!
They don't even need to catch them at some point. The rats and mice will smell them and just keep off the house.

I am just curious about the rats people are finding inside their apartments. How big are they? Do you know what species? From my experience the big ones tend to stay outdoor. At night on the Riverside I have seen them as big as horses, okay not that big but very large.

They are just the normal Rattus Norvegicus or Rattus Rattus found worldwide. There are many other species of Paddy Rat etc but you won't generally find them in urban areas.
