Is there dodgy bottled water around?
During the past few days, I've bought two bottles of water, from the same shop, that soon started leaking from the top. One large bottle, one small, different brands, same street side drink shop, although I've shopped at this place many times in the past without incident.
Are there people who collect old bottles of water and caps, fill them with tap water, add a bit of glue/plastic, and resell them as bottled water? Is that a thing?
I haven't turned yellow yet, but I fear that's next.

I don't know but if you live riverside it seems safer to only buy from Panda Mart or Smile Mart.

I am convinced that most of the bottled water in Cambodia (and Vietnam) is dodgy. They checked bottled water in VN a few years ago and most of it was straight from the tap and thoroughly contaminated.

Don't blame me I voted for Sanders
Its always nice ice cold but let it get to room temp and it tastes like Satan's piss.
Although I do remember that being the case in the UK with tap water, although not as vile.
Might just get a filter and use our well water.

It's the pipes not the water. Chlorine aside water at the TTP compound is fine, much better than I've had in Los Angeles. In contrast, water I had last week at a friend's house in another neighborhood was undrinkable. New empty water bottles are for sale and can be filled by anyone from any source. Took a boat ride with a guy in koh kong who just went up the river to the waterfall and filled the bottles to sell. No testing or regulations involved.

The water here is treated with iodine not chlorinejm wrote:It's the pipes not the water. Chlorine aside water at the TTP compound is fine, much better than I've had in Los Angeles. I have a nighbor who only uses those 750ml bottle Kulen Mountain water for drinking and those 500 ml and 20liter bottles for cleaning dishes, laundry and stuff. Tap water was used for flushing the toilet. This went on for months. Ironically he sometimes get sick from this and that and we rarely do.
There are shitty drinking water out there. There were recent photos circulating on fb showing a water drinking company pumping water into the 500ml and 20l from a well looking water storage.

EVERYONE BOW DOWN TO HIS MAJESTIES phat kunthea™
I saw those pictures and it wasn't clear where the water pipe came from, although the filling method was odd.
I worked for a bottled water company years ago and even after all the tests, checks, expensive purification processes, and strict controls they still occasionally got contaminated.

If you follow The Shit River on Google maps, you will note that at least one major bottled water company is located on its beautiful banks. Obviously the need for untreated water has nothing to do with the sewer, right?
On a related note,I'd be willing to bet that KNY and Pchum Benh are peak periods for water-borne diseases via supposedly safe drinking water.
Hey Noddy! Turn on the filtration plant and add more chemicals!
Fuck that, Big Ears, it's province clown-car partaaaay time! What could go wrong?

Are you even in Cambodia? If you are then you should invest in a 20L bottle and fill up your small ones with that.gavinmac wrote:During the past few days, I've bought two bottles of water, from the same shop, that soon started leaking from the top.
