Bars for a pub crawl
What about Larry's on 110? I haven't been for a long time, over a year I think. What's it like there now?
Also, what about Shanghai?

You will find a lot of girls standing around talking at these bars, that's for sure.dan1el wrote:St 136 - why not me bar , helicopter bar, cozy bar , corner bar , butterfly bar , candy bar and finally the red fox. Enjoy your crawl.
Oskars is a good place to have drinks while standing around, Bouchon on Wednesday (live jazz), Est bar on Wednesday (live jazz). Not really bars, but there are always a ton of events where you can stand around and meet new people over drinks -- try any of the Chamber of Commerce events, Internations, or even special event nights like Providore's wine night tomorrow night. None of my suggestions here are super casual, cheap beer drinking spots, but they are all good for having drinks and meeting new people.
Another good way to meet some new drinking buddies is through the Hash House Harriers, that meets every Sunday for a walk or run (up to which), with beers afterwards. They also do a bi-monthly pub-crawl in different areas of the city, the next one being on Sept 16th.

You mentioned NO fancy new bars or cocktail bars so that eliminates most of the pricey wine, cocktail bars that DM listed.
Ah yes, Joon. ShowBox, Street 172( Sundance Saloon) and the range of streets from 130-104 are the epitome of upscale. Yeah, nevermind, Sundance Saloon is more of a black tie only type of place and street 136 and 104 only serve $15 cocktails, IF you can find the secret speakeasy style entrances and utter the password to get in..

Saw that while driving past the other day, I just hoped that they were not advertising what was avaliable in the bar ...Jackal wrote:There's a new bar on 172 called "Dirty old Sailors".
I'll go there for the name alone.

Jesus... You're usually not bad with advice, but you just mentioned the exact types of places he specifically said he was trying to avoid.Miguelito wrote:You will find a lot of girls standing around talking at these bars, that's for sure.dan1el wrote:St 136 - why not me bar , helicopter bar, cozy bar , corner bar , butterfly bar , candy bar and finally the red fox. Isn't the whole point of a pub crawl the randomness?
if you're going to plan it, it destroys the whole unpredictability reward thingy.

Yea, I agree, these were the types of places he wanted to avoid in his first post, but I was trying to give some ideas based on his follow up post. He wants what doesn't exist here: cheap drinks, lively atmosphere, a place to stand and be sociable, etc. There are lots and lots of places to get cheap beers, I was trying to answer the part about places I've found that I could stand around, drink, and easily meet new people. If price is an issue, even the more "upscale" options always have more affordable options, such as $3 drinks at Bouchon at certain times, or half off cocktails at Oskar's Sat nights until midnight.LexusSchmexus wrote:Jesus... A very casual place to stand and mingle and listen to some music is the recently opened Good Times Bar by one of Sharkey's former managers, Shu. I think he's had a good opening week, and hopefully it stays that way. Speaking of that, the OP might enjoy playing pool at Sharkey's, and could join one of their pool night competitions.
If you are looking to meet new people I suggest going to Sundance and seek out Scobienz. He is quite the social butterfly and loves chatting with new people.
