Khmer Rouge oxygen-sucking killer trees.....
As for Malaria being common: there were 4000 admissions and 160 deaths last year, which is not a whole lot to say Kenya (where I grew up), which had 25,000 deaths 2 years ago.

All of the above plus worms, giardiasis and other intestinal parasites are very common. But dengue and malaria are king, together with bacterial infections, when it comes to illnesses that kill many Cambodians and can kill you. If you're hit with a (rare, but possible, killed the husband of a friend of mine within days) combi of dengue and malaria and you don't drag your ass to a really good doc quickly you're probably fucked in a relatively short time.
Having said that, I know of at least two cases of Hepatitis B in my village, and I'm pretty sure those two don't do anything to prevent spreading it, if you know what I mean.
<edit>
Last week, being in the Europe, there was a discussion going on about vaccination against Noro viruses. Those seem to take a lot of lives too, esp. in South East Asia and Africa among young children.

Never mind the stats, in 9 years here I have not come across a single person that caught Malaria. In Kenya, I do not know a single person that did not have Malaria at one stage or another (I reckon I must have had Malaria 10+ times).Kachang wrote:How I love the people believing Cambodian stat's...Hanno wrote:Khmer Rouge oxygen-sucking killer trees.....

And the stats are from WHO, not the Cambodian government

Alcoholism is the most common disease around here among white people, next one is the wannabe disease,
i.e. I did not 'bail out' moving to Cambodia, I'm a 'successful' entrepenour living off the exchange value of my homecountry's currency and I have a cool bike that I show off on, and lots of tatoos, I'm a fucking star, and I get to call everyone else an idiot online
bla bla. bla.

Depression and PPSD (post prostitute stress disorder) are rife among the expat community. It helps to be thick.Georgy wrote:Diseases... I'd like to know about it. What are the most common (and problematic) diseases around you in Cambodia?
Pls, give me some quick answers, according to your experience. I don't mean the flu, getting cold or something else that we have everywhere around the world. Are there some more unusual or problematic cases like "a lot of HIV/AIDS", "many hepatitis cases" and so on?
So, what's the situation around nowadays?
Agreed. Cambodia will emphasize any schizophrenic disorders worse than overuse of LSD.logos wrote:MPD (multiple personality disorder)
Nobody has mentioned pneumonia yet, That is very prevalent and can be a killer.
