Any options for storage in PP?

Can anyone suggest a cheap, reliable option for storage of personal possessions?

I'm likely to be away travelling most of the first half of next year, so there doesn't seem to be any point keeping on an apartment. But I've got quite a lot of books, CDs, kitchenware, exercise equipment, and a few bits and pieces of furniture I need to store somewhere.

The major international shipping companies seem to be very expensive - but I haven't found any local companies that offer a storage service.

I may end up just renting a small room in a shared house and dumping everything there.

I wish someone would open up a normal self-storage place, in a convenient location, with a storefront, lockers, storage units, whatever.
