^ was that here in Cambodia? Many might think i am being overly paranoid about ."just getting a cat". However my daughter is still recovering from TB whuch she contracted from a home room teacher from the school where i work at, that she also attends . It was almost fatal...so it was a real wake up call for us. So yeah.... i am blasie about anything health related.
I don't wear elephant pants.

Seriously, I have issues with cats; I regard them as tricksters; I do not trust them. [/quote]

Lara, you can pay a visit to PPAWS and Animal Rescue and adopt one of their adult cats. I assume they would've been treated already. See which cats come to you and your daughter and is friendly.
If you want a kitten, probably plenty with the neighbors or at pagodas. People on Facebook also often find orphaned kittens and look for home for them.
Getting a cat is not a challenge at all. But it's taking care of them after and living with them.
Because they'll live with you and will have their own characters.
As for transmittable disease, well we can get sick from anything and anyone.... and I don't think a pet cat will be more of a risk if you keep it and your house clean. However, if your little one just recovered and may be prone to get ill, maybe it's safer for her to get a little older and develop a stronger immunity system.

Best advice from a cat owner, is always remember cats have nine lives.
Which makes them ideal for 4 year old girls to experiment on.

My posts are just jokes, maybe they're rude, offensive, and politically incorrect. They're not my opinion, viewpoint, idea, or judgement, but they're just fucking jokes so lighten up.

Seconded.
I believe a 5-year old child may be too young to interact with a cat unsupervised.
WTF. It's a pet to play and stroke now and again. She doesn't want to discuss Kierkegaard with it.
Lara . . just get the cat, do the vaccinations and don't overthink it. It's a cat.
Lara, when I lived in PP - we got a kitten from a mad cat lady who had a house full of them. Bent tail at the tip (as previously mentioned, this is due to a genetic mutation, not mechanically done!). We had the cat for 6 years, and then when we left, went to another good home (and still alive (he is 11 years old now). It was mainly an indoor cat, but went roaming around the local neighbourhood from time to time - and never had issues with illnesses. My kids at the time were 9 and 6.
We got the cat fixed and vaccinated at Agrovet - and at the time, it really wasn't that pricey (as compared to Oz). I've just looked at the prices, and they are slightly more than we paid 10 years ago, but not that much more.
see their prices: http://www.agrovet-cambodia.com/tariffs.html
But I agree with Scooby - don't over think it!
There are kittens for adoption at Animal Rescue Cambodia here: https://www.facebook.com/theanimalmama/ ... 88557&rt=6
For basic care, Navetco clinic can provide basic services (deworming, vaccination, neutering) at a cheaper rate.

If you want a pet simply for a small child to play with and you don't want any hassle, why not get a rabbit? Don't need to worry about it picking up diseases, going missing etc and I imagine it's a whole lot cheaper.
And when the kid gets fed up with the rabbit, you can eat it!Speak No Evil wrote:If you want a pet simply for a small child to play with and you don't want any hassle, why not get a rabbit? Don't need to worry about it picking up diseases, going missing etc and I imagine it's a whole lot cheaper.
