ER Visa and Cambodian income taxes
ER Visa and Cambodian income taxes
I am seriously considering moving to Cambodia from Thailand. The only fly in the ointment is the possibility of having to pay income tax. I draw a paltry 2450 USD a month and I am not anxious to have Cambodian fingers in my income pie in addition to the tax I already pay the United States. Any thoughts from the members would be appreciated.

stay over 180 days/year in the country, libel for tax, something even Thailand does not do to those of us on retirement extensions.
Of course it might be years till they are capable of actually finding out anything and figuring out how to tax you

As above, don't worry about it.
I'm not a negative person, I encourage people all the time...it's usually to f**k off! But, whatever.

That is because of one or more provisions of the Thai tax code and its treaties. Thailand does not tax the offshore income of a Thai resident unless it is repatriated to Thailand. Thailand also has tax treaties with a number of countries intended to overcome the same income being taxed twice - once in the home country, once in Thailand. Cambodia, in contrast, taxes the worldwide income of Cambodian residents and has only one tax treaty - with Singapore, concluded earlier this year. Cambodia is therefore like the USA tax regime for individuals in taxing worldwide income; Thailand is like the USA tax regime for businesses, which taxes overseas income only if repatriated to the USA. (That's why American companies like Apple keep as much revenue as possible outside the USA, and take that even further by sourcing that revenue in low-tax jurisdictions like Eire). The wise man always includes tax considerations in deciding where to livePhuket2006 wrote:stay over 180 days/year in the country, libel for tax, something even Thailand does not do to those of us on retirement extensions.
