So I stumbled across the new DJI Mavic online and thought, wow, 'this is truely the kind of overpriced gadgetry that would define and complete me as a person, how can I live without it, now that I am aware of its existence? I must blow a grand on this tech, and hopefully not regret it. Drones before health insurance, always'.
But what are the realities of flying a drone in the Kingdom?
Obviously PP centre is out of bounds, going by the experience of previous attempts by foreigners. But if I was up on Bokor, down by the ocean, or zipping along highway 6 on my bicycle, would it be an issue, having my very own robotic companion overhead?

I have flown my drone (Phantom) all over the place. I stay away from government buildings, airports, and military installations and inside Angkor is a no-no; never had a problem.

6 mo's since this thread was made, is the general situation still "use common sense, don't fly one near the above locations" and you'll be ok? I did see the post in the "James Ricketson arrested at CNRP rally" thread about a permit from the local commune police so I'll talk to the family to sort that out.
Heading back and want to use my Mavic while I'm there.

I saw a local using one behind the Cambodiana a few months ago. He didn't seem to have any hassles, but yes it may be a different situation if a foreigner had one so close to the palace.gavinmac wrote:No one'a actually going to give a white guy a permit to fly a drone around the neighborhood.
