You could always come to PP for a few days and make the rounds... no need to move unless or until you have a job offer.CambodianDevil wrote:Still haven't heard anything. May be a bad time of year or just an unlucky break. I'm going to have to really tighten the budget if nothing comes along. I think the CELTA will help me when I find a place with positions available. I may need to move to Phnom Pehn, but moving is a hassle and expensive also. I've had offers to go to China and Vietnam, but I really just wanted to teach here in Cambodia. I may have to look elsewhere.

Vietnam is cheaper than Cambodia and seems to have more opportunities in almost every field. A childhood friend who I went to school with in England is now working as a playboy bunny in Hanoi for $2k per month plus tips, you could try that if you have nice boobs.CambodianDevil wrote:Still haven't heard anything. Being an English teacher is a prestigious position. You get to be called teacher teacher over 100 times a day while sitting on your fat ass on a cheap 7 dollars plasticchair teaching them how to correctly pronounce the word Headway.

I got a teaching job in Siem Reap. Thanks for the advice guys. I just got a PO Box in town now to start getting some mail now that I figure I'll be here for a bit now. Nice to have a paycheck coming in, but I hate I'm missing out on the bunny in Hanoi with the nice rack.

Teaching the children of civil war survivors has extra challenges.
It was once said (before), that educating the kids was not a priority because it would lead to organized demonstrations by young people. Hence, the kids are still a bit chaotic.
But they are often sweet. Puberty does have a negative effect on a few, but that's everywhere.
I suggest getting real little people skills before attempting to manage these little cubs, haha.

You act like that's surprising. As a parent, I would 100% better with a Western female teacher, than some Western guy that decides to spend his time around children in southeast Asia. It's well established that any man that wants to be around young children here must be a little off, right?gavinmac wrote:I've seen white chicks post in Facebook groups "I'm coming to Cambodia to teach" and then directors from the schools immediately respond begging them to make direct contact.

Right. That's why I proposed years ago that Cambodia should ban Western men from teaching children in Cambodia.
I then made my famous blue chalk/pink chalk analogy when andyinasia questioned my proposal.

How about, banning something not related to sex, barrister?
Like banning irresponsible and inappropriate relationships in general, and regular beer-guzzling and twat-flannellery?
Generally, males fall into this category, but the occasional female here I know is the same.
There are more male Cambodian teachers here than most any other place in the world.
Just a tough place to work ... Many women here are less than educated (in this agrarian society) and opt to take care of their own families first instead of braving traffic everyday ...

Three weeks in and all is well. I have not found any men here who fall into the category of "just wanting to be around little kids." Some are retired professionals, veterans, college grads, etc. It's not as sleazy as some people might want to think.

Why do you think retired people, veterans, and college graduates are less likely to be pedophiles than other guys?

I didn't think they were less likely to be pedophiles. I just said it wasn't as sleazy as people might think.gavinmac wrote:Why do you think retired people, veterans, and college graduates are less likely to be pedophiles than other guys?

So how did you eventually land your gig and can you tell anything about the pay? Thanks.CambodianDevil wrote:Three weeks in and all is well. The problem with the world is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?
