Really getting pissed off with Cellcard. I have an old dumbphone I don't use more than a few times a week for local calls. I buy $10 worth of credit, use up $5 and then get a text message after a set period of time telling me to top up or my balance will expire. WTH? So I wait it out and, sure enough, one day my phone just stops making calls or texts. I top up $1 and everything's back to life - I now have $6 in credit, great. A week - literally a week! - later the same message again they obviously want me to keep topping up on credit whether I need it or not.
I've only noticed this over the last few months - is this a new way of fleecing customers or has it been around for awhile? Prior to that I used to make more international calls, so perhaps I just never noticed because I topped up more often.
Frustrated. Would gladly switch carriers if that'll fix it, but I suspect they're all in on this together.
Do all the phone carriers make you top up when you don't need it?
Smart (Xtralong!) and Metfone (4ever) both have plan options that mean your credit never disappears and no need to top up as long as you make 1 transaction every 6 months.
Don't know if Cellcard have a similar plan.

I have always used Cellcard, and used to have issues like yours. Since I started using their $4.50 monthly 3G plan a few years ago that covers data and call times I've never had to spend more than that (unless I was making foreign calls or spending the measly few cents it costs to phone a different network).seidier wrote:Really getting pissed off with Cellcard. Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.

I googled up Meftone 4ever and it looks good. Was making mental plans to switch SIMs when I thought I should check out Cellcard for a comparable plan and discovered they do have one - it's called Cellcard Niyeay. Compared to my current plan it seems I'm adding about 1 cent/minute and text, but I guess there's gotta be a trade-off somewhere. Apparently switching plans can be done through text message - I'm apparently on the new plan now. Saying "apparently" a lot because my account is still frozen from lack of top-ups. But there's hope.
Thanks, guys!
