Special K Visa and Citizenship
Thanks Kiwi and Lucan. I guess if they want to get new papers, the immigration guys will ask all sort of questions that only a person borned in cambodia will know such as what is the name of the village, name of primary school, knowledge of the local village back in 1970s, blah blah.
Yea, that is my understanding and also what the laws state, but this guy was serious about being able to issue them to foreigners who are officially married to Cambodians (must have official Cambodian marriage certificate).Barang_doa_slae wrote:I think he was mistaken.PSD_Kiwi wrote:
Strangely enough, even foreigners married to a Cambodian can get the K visa, was in a meeting with an Immigration General a few days ago who confirmed this and informed me that it is legitimate, but pricey. There is nothing in the written laws that supports this though.
Visa K is only accessible to khmer by blood lignage.
I tried several times to obtain one for myself through various high up immigration contacts and even though I am a cambodian citizen I was refused it no matter what, they however acknowledged I and another few hundreds others were left in a visa limbo since there are non existent that fit us for use in our primary passport.
I'm not a negative person, I encourage people all the time...it's usually to f**k off! But, whatever.

I don't see how that is in any way viable. No offense, but it sounds like some minor official talking BS about something he knows nothing about.PSD_Kiwi wrote:Yea, that is my understanding and also what the laws state, but this guy was serious about being able to issue them to foreigners who are officially married to Cambodians (must have official Cambodian marriage certificate).Barang_doa_slae wrote:I think he was mistaken.PSD_Kiwi wrote:

Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
I'm confused, why would you need a visa if you've got citizenship already ?BDS wrote:Even though I am a cambodian citizen I was refused it no matter what

So how did the op get a K visa if he was only a tourist with no connection to KOW?

But surely you'd enter Cambodia on your Cambodian passport?Barang_doa_slae wrote:The answer is in the rest of my post. Has anyone put that Article 4 to the test recently? I mean has any barang married (or not) to a Khmer woman had a baby together outside of Cambodia and some time later returned to Cambodia and asserted citizenship and acquired ID card, passport, family book entry etc for the child?thelost wrote:
I did some Googling and here is the link - https://www.wto.org/english/thewto_e/ac ... LEG_37.pdf
Article 4 - Shall obtain Khmer nationality/citizenship regardless of the place of birth
- Any legitimate child who is born from a mother or father who has Khmer nationality/citizenship
- Any illegitimate child who is born from and recognised by mother or father who has Khmer nationality
There are only 10 kinds of people in the world; those who understand binary and ...
^^^ This. Dual citizenship holders present their passport for the respective country on entry and exit which gets stamped. The immigration also asks to see the other passport.YaTingPom wrote:But surely you'd enter Cambodia on your Cambodian passport?Barang_doa_slae wrote:

I've met several that were born in the U.S./France/Canada in the 80's, and have moved back here now and obtained citizenship. Hell, there's even an organization for them, Anvaya.walkjivefly wrote:Has anyone put that Article 4 to the test recently? Varies by the country... some you need to exit on the same passport you entered on, some you don't. Surprisingly, you can enter the U.S. on one passport, and then stay however long you want, and then exit on a different passport if you have one. They don't track exits.Tano wrote:^^^ This.
