Paying Income Tax in Cambodia
Paying Income Tax in Cambodia
Do you pay tax ? English teacher or working for a multi national law firm . 10% up to $2,150, 20% $3,120 or more per month. I understand the obligation is on the employer, so was the first question you asked was regard to tax? Is your monthly salary taxed?

I could be wrong, but a few years ago if you made $500 or less a month there is no tax at all, but schools still take it.
I love bitches n gonna fuck Texas and the USA+ right up their god damn ass! Hallelujah!
I would think any amount earned would be subject to tax. It seems to be a grey area .

I looked http://www.movetocambodia.com/working-i ... dia/taxes/ but it seems the onus is on the employer.
If you're married with children the tax rate is less, even as a foreigner.

Could be, all I know is I pay about 8% tax, and sometimes get an envelope with x amount of Riel handed too me as 'tax back'.

Yes, if you're employed by a Cambodian company, they're obliged to withhold salary tax.Jep wrote:I looked http://www.movetocambodia.com/working-i ... dia/taxes/ but it seems the onus is on the employer.
Why? Most countries have a tax-free threshold, and the link you posted indicates the same. Up to 1m riel is tax free.Jep wrote:I would think any amount earned would be subject to tax. It seems to be a grey area .

You might think that, but it isn't all that gray at all. In Cambodia there is an incremental system for income tax. Below a certain cut-off-point you don't have to pay tax. That's common enough in many countries. It's extremely low, like less than $1000 a year or something. It still exists though - for good reasons. There's no point in trying to get blood out of a stone.Jep wrote:I would think any amount earned would be subject to tax. It seems to be a grey area .
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.

It says taxable includes foreign income. How does Cambodia know about overseas income? Do they tax pensions?

Not sure what you're looking at but here is an update on taxable income as of 15 December 2016:Drg wrote:It says taxable includes foreign income. How does Cambodia know about overseas income? Do they tax pensions?
There is no personal income tax, per se, in Cambodia. Instead, a monthly salary tax is imposed on individuals who derive income from employment. General consulting income is excluded from salary tax but is subject to tax on profit (ToP, see the Taxes on corporate income section in the Corporate summary for more information on ToP), although rules exist that may deem certain consultants as employees.
A Cambodian resident's worldwide salary is subject to Cambodia salary tax, while non-residents are taxed on Cambodian-sourced salary.
