I recently startet to use another smartphone and it worked perfectly until I inserted my Smart SIM. Since then I got ghost touches and I tried a couple of things (wipe cache, factory reset, even opened it up and isolated the screen cable and the battery) and nothing helped. It's not a very bad issue, sometimes it won't happen for several hours, another time two times in ten minutes. It's just annoying when you send a message or have some app open and it suddenly closes and wipes it from the RAM.
I was having this issue for about a week and then, as I got annoyed, I took out the SIM and put it back into my old phone and voila, suddenly the ghost touches are gone. Two days now.
I can understand that ghost touches refer to software or hardware as the cables grounding or so. But I got no idea why my SIM would influence my display?
Anybody got a solution for that or an idea?
Android Ghost Touches SIM card related?
Ghost touches on a touchscreen device are almost always a hardware issue.
I know that doesn't appear to be the case in your situation, and perhaps it isn't? But that renders it something of a mystery most likely and therefore much harder to fix because one has to solve a mystery before one can fix the problem.
What kind of phone is it? If it's not particularly valuable, and you can otherwise afford the expense yourself, I would highly recommend getting a brand new Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 for $210, widely available around Cambodia. You'll get an octa-core processor, 64gb storage, 3gb RAM, 1080p screen, dual SIM and MicroSD, and a nice metal build/casing. And brand new they usually come with 1 year warranty too. Great phones, amazing price, can't go wrong with that unless you're an Apple fan and only an iPhone will do or you need the absolute bleeding-edge for performance in an Android and you buy an $800 flagship phone new every year, in which case you probably know what you want precisely and why you want it specifically, most likely, so have at it.
As far as this phone goes:
The easiest way to solve the problem if it's a software issue is to just FACTORY RESET the phone, which you mentioned trying. This *should* eliminate all the previous settings and all of the previously installed software aside from what it comes loaded with out the gates. If the problem persists after a factory reset, then it is probably a hardware issue related to the touchscreen's digitizer.
Just for kicks, try a different SMART SIM or a SIM from Cellcard or Metfone, whichever. Does the problem occur when the new SIM is present? So that it happens regardless of which SIM you have inserted ... but ONLY when you have one SIM or another inserted? Or does it only happen with that one particular SIM? If that's the case, examine that SIM - anything unsual about it physically?
It is possible that the digitizer is seated incorrectly or awkwardly within the assembled phone or that some other physical piece of the phone is obstructing it or otherwise influencing it somehow. In fact, if this only happens when your SIM is inserted, possibly the presence of the SIM is causing it by changing how the phone goes together subtly. If this is the case somehow, this could be a manufacturer's defect or it could be from wear and tear such as removal and insertion of the SIM frequently. Disassemble the phone and reassemble it with careful attention paid to each of the phone's components (mainboard, battery, etc) being lined up perfectly and neatly. Clean out or gently remove any dirt or debris you encounter in the process. It sounds like you may have done something like this already, but that's what I'd do if it was my phone ... And of course keep your eyes peeled for any damage, anomalies etc while doing that.
