Why is Manulife recruiting my girlfriend?
Why is Manulife recruiting my girlfriend?
My gf works at a clothes shop in O'Russei market. She earns very little money.
She says that yesterday a woman came to the "shop" and started telling my girlfriend that she must make very little in her job selling clothes. (True). The woman told my gf she could make more money if she joined the woman's employer/"team."
The woman has since been calling her and trying to set up a meeting.
I thought this would turn out to be a Multi-level marketing thing like Herbalife but the woman says she works for Manulife. I understand this is an insurance company.
Is this a scam? Why would an insurance company be trying to recruit an undereducated clothes seller? Are they trying to recruit her to sell insurance on commission or something like that? Is the woman trying to lure her to a meeting and kidnap her as a sex slave? Maybe I have read too many articles about sex trafficking in Cambodia. Is it possible the woman is sincere and wants to hire her for a good office job that is better than selling clothes in the market?

My first stop would be to ask the woman directly.
I'm not sure she is a K440 user.

if its a good office job then they will just advertise online, they wouldnt have foot soldiers going around recruiting market sellersBLTBob wrote:My gf works at a clothes shop in O'Russei market. She earns very little money.

Manulife is a major multinational insurance company, not snake oil peddlers like Herbalife.BLTBob wrote:My gf works at a clothes shop in O'Russei market. She earns very little money.

Most likely the situation is down to the fucktardery of a sales agent chasing commission themselves. Contact the company directly and give them the woman's name and details of the incident. They detest idiocy like this.

Manulife are just a typical life assurance company. All about the hard sell. They may well want to recruit your girlfriend...but your girlfriend will be thrust into a very high pressure world that may be uncomfortable for her. Hard, cold, brutal selling. I am very familiar with Manulife because I did some contract work with them. This approach does not surprise me at all.

The only reason I can think of for her being targeted is that she's very charismatic while working at the market, and they think she'll be able to persuade people to buy insurance or whatever. Get her to give them a polite cold-shoulder for now, and explain the kind of BS salesperson job she'd be doing if she took up the offer. I'd rather collect scrap than do a job like that.BLTBob wrote:My gf works at a clothes shop in O'Russei market. She earns very little money.

I had a couple of ex-staff recruited by them and it turned out very badly. They got some basic training, were promised a lot of commissions and then asked to get their families and friends to take out policies. Obviously, mist Khmer have no idea what an insurance even is and will not sign up for this/crackers wrote:Manulife are just a typical life assurance company. All about the hard sell. More info. The woman attempted to recruit both my gf and her co-worker.
She said it's not an office job and they would only have to go into the office one time and scan their fingers and then they would earn $300 per month.
The lady also told them that if they are lucky they can earn $10,000.
I asked my girlfriend again if she was sure it was Manulife, and she said her co-worker told her it was Manulife.
I think maybe Herbalife.

So it's a nonsense sales commission job, there is no way in hell they'll see a buck out of it until they get some hapless twat relation or friend or whoever else to sign up for a policy.BLTBob wrote:

I think the old adage is worth pointing out here:

One of the insurance companies ( I think, may be an MFI) , has teams of sexy young women with flyers and shit, in green miniskirts and heels trotting into markets, shops and restaurants all over this province.
Travel on mini vans, similar to beer girl level, but better looking than average.
That's probably a $300 p/m job these days.

That sounds pretty glamorous. I guess if they stick it out for a while they'll be on that $10 K a month soon enough.
