My wife and I are moving to Cambodia next week. My wife is Khmer and she owns our house there. Our stuff was picked up by the movers and will be on a boat in a couple of days. It's all used personal goods, a few pieces of furniture. The most expensive thing is my guitar amp.
We originally told the movers that the shipment should be in my wife's name as our understanding is there's no import duty for personal goods for returning Cambodian citizens. But after it was picked up, the movers told us their agent in Cambodia said it would be easier to clear if it's in my name. Does anyone know if this is true? I really don't want to get popped for a big import duty.
Also, I'll be bringing a couple of guitars when we fly in. Am I likely to run into any duty issues at the airport?
Import Duty
I can only add my experience with guitars, I've brought two last trip into Cambodia via Pochentong, an Ernie Ball 4 string bass and PRS Custom 24 replica) with no problem, although they were broken down to fit in my luggage. I didn't use a gig bag.
No hassle, but security did want to open up my suitcase and examine the pickups as they didn't know what they were.

Reckless driving cucumber - 成
I imported a container of personnal effects from Europe some years ago, in my own name. Did not have to pay any import taxes.
Had to pick ip the papers in Phnom Penh from the shipping agent, and cleared customs myself in Sihanoukville.
There are msny truckers hanging around the port looking to transport your stuff for you.
Used almost 10 hours to clear customs though.

We're flying into PP and the guitars are both in hard shell cases. I bought a ticket for one of them as it's not a flight case. The movers are supposed to be door to door. I'm told we won't need to go to S'ville. I guess I'll just trust them.
Thanks for your help

Update: No issue with the guitars on entry. However, JetStar refused to let the archtop on the plane, even though they sold me a ticket. Fortunately, it survived being checked.
