Visa extension delay.
Hello, I am new here and have a question for a friend about his visa extension.
He applied for a 1 year extension about 10 days ago and just received word through the travel agent that there may be a problem with his passport and visa. They advised him that they will know more in 2 days if he can have it or if he needs to come for an interview. (it's a new passport, however, he has had a 1 year visa extension before)
What are your thoughts, is it any big deal, and if they want an interview, what preparations should he make prior to presenting himself.
Thank-you.

Difficult to comment without knowing what the actual problem is. Please report back with details, I'm very interested to hear what the issue is and it could be helpful to others in the future.
I'm not a negative person, I encourage people all the time...it's usually to f**k off! But, whatever.

Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
OP, are you wanted for felonies or misdemeanors in your country of origin?

And, what country's passport does your friend hold? If it's American, please do not take any advice from batshitcrazywierdo. (Did that psycho really try to climb the embassy's fence?)pedros wrote:OP, are you wanted for felonies or misdemeanors in your country of origin?

Did he send off his old passport as well showing his original visa, his previous extension and his entrance stamp into Cambodia?Machiavelli wrote:it's a new passport
If you get a new passport best to attach the old one to the back off it with elastic bands until you have a new visa extension and entry stamp into the country in the new passport.

Of course, that was my first thought too, but that does not seem to be the case. However how could anyone know when/if ones government wants them for something?pedros wrote:OP, are you wanted for felonies or misdemeanors in your country of origin?
Anyhow, he has contacted his own embassy who have confirmed that there is nothing wrong with his passport itself, and to advise further if there are any problems.

He entered on his new passport. Don't you think that by providing the old one, there could be further possible complications, i.e. work permits?lurcio wrote:Did he send off his old passport as well showing his original visa, his previous extension and his entrance stamp into Cambodia?Machiavelli wrote:it's a new passport

This could end up being nothing. All we know so far is the travel agent emailed the following:
Hello Sir.
My team in Phnom Penh called me about your passport.
We want to inform you that the government keep your passport now,They told my team that your passport has problem, but they didn't told us clear about the problem.
They said that a few day later they will inform us to give you your passport or you have to go to interview with them in Phnom Penh.
Sorry for late information,Because the government just inform us today.
I was telling him that if it were me, I wouldn't want to go there for the interview alone, or I would want someone to call ahead and figure some things out first. It could be a real interview, or it could be a trap? I have no clue.

Yes, it could end up being nothing. But I'd be quite alarmed reading that email. Probably an arrest warrant in his home country.
