Are the Chinese taking over Sihanoukville?
Saw several brand new white utes in Kep over xmas emblazoned with CHINA LAND driving around back roads. All the locals and expats are slathering over the arrival of the chinese in Kep. Stuff I bought for $10m2 this time last year is now...$50-100 "apparently" We do have a firm offer of $40k on a a block we bought for $12k ( 11 month hold ) so who knows what the truth is.
Did not see a chink, hear a chink or witness any stabbings or drunken road divider accidents so.........where are the chinks ?

Khmer speculation on supposed arrival but as usual they'll be there way before you can see them (uknow kinda like cockroaches)
P.S: Cockroach will be the last species to remain in case of nuclear war. (So it was a compliment )

UPDATE -- "Xmas 2019" ...
I would say that the Chinese army is much reduced in Shiva's Port, but will be back in full force once the government decides how to let itself be bought again.
Since the government formally rescinded and/or declined to renew the licenses of online casino operators, entire LARGE blocks of apartments, like the one at the end of Ochheuteal Beach South -- that last year were crammed to the gills with "Chinese Spinach Dogs", both male and female -- are now COMPLETELY empty. A few Chinese tourists can be seen occasionally, and many casinos are operating, but many others are virtually shut and/or dormant. I would say that there are still many gangsters in town, but tens of thousands fewer than before.
Large scale construction does continue. But many of these buildings are mammoth edifices, and they are not yet finished. Nobody can say how many of these mega-resorts and condos actually will be completed. In some respects, Sihanoukville has become a Ghost town that resembles the set of a very bad Zombie Apocalypse movie... It is now probably one of the "Top 5 Ugliest Cities on Earth"... Seriously, it is absolutely hideous and unlivable! The only expats remaining are mostly older guys "fortunate" enough to be married to land, and a few crazy Russians of all ages -- (god knows what they are doing here..!) I guess those crooks have secret reasons they cannot go back home, or "business" interests. Only two or three Western-owned restos are still working in Sihanoukville...
In brief, the place is much MUCH quieter than last year, but also more ugly and DUSTY: because right now they are ripping up a lot of main roads, including Ekareach -- less than a year since it was last repaved! They are trying to widen the road, to make Ekareach into a Chinese city style BIG boulevard; but, nobody has got around to repaving the dirty rough surface. It's a ghastly mess! Every single street in the city is dusty and the air is unsafe to breathe. Only a few streets have been fully reconstructed, like Omei street north of the main market, but it is still all dusty and shortly peters out before reaching Don Bosco -- an absolute mess...
Many Chinese gangsters are still here, but many fewer Chinese small business types than last year... I would say that the only local Khmers who are interested in the Chinese are landlords and the psycho truck drivers -- most of whom are ignorant punk kids with not even a slight acquaintance of how to safely conduct a big semi or gravel truck: these kids are really scary and dangerous! Otherwise, the bulk of the local Cambodians now living in Sihanoukville are itinerants from the backest woods, all of whom seem to share the same cringing nasal accents! (They sound like Bronx yokels from the 1950s, or some American south hillbilly hee-haws from the middle of the last century...)
Wow! And the rudeness and greed of the tuk-tuk drivers! And the rudeness and greed of the local market sellers! Moe, Larry and Curly can be occasionally spotted all over the place, from Otres to the Lion Circle... So, the poor Cambodians seem to mirror the brusque crudeness of the average Fujianese cretin who had become ubiquitous around here during the last 2 years... Sad, so sad... A pathetic mess! I don't really feel safe on the roads at night. Most of the gangsters seem to wake up quite late, and start driving around after 12 p.m... In the early evening, sometimes all the roads downtown are crammed and busy with vans and pick-ups and SUVs. But weirdly, many of the streets have lost their streetlights and are now very dark and unlit; the downtown feels very unsafe to drive around at night now.
The new governor has done almost nothing to improve garbage collection: there are heaps of garbage stacked up around the perimeter roads of Sihanoukville, and the water supply is still screwed up after they announced 12 months ago that the "new Chinese-built system" would become operational in "January of 2019" ...nope... I heard the French are going to build it? Not soon... My water comes from a well, and I live out of the city proper in a fresh air spot. But not for much longer. No, not for much longer...
I will miss lovely little Prek Treng beach, which beats all the beaches in the neighborhood except for the ones on the islands. Gonna camp at Keo Phos, I guess, on the way to Preah Vihear and Laos for a ride around...

Daytime, the streets seem much quieter than last year: but at night, the downtown sometimes gets crammed with gangster cars... There are no street lights, it is awful.... It is very weird.
The corruption is resuming already:

Thanks in advance. I say..
I shot the Admin, but I did not shoot the Moderator ,
Do you mean “China Aid”?
They’re state vehicles donated by China.
I thought any expat who profiteers from land increases is a scumbag and sucking off the blood of the poor locals?

Sounds like the Chinese aren't putting their best foot forward. So I guess it makes sense that there's growing angst against China right now in Cambodia. From your vantage point, does it look like there are bad feelings about Chinese ppl in general? I'm Chinese-American, interested in doing business in Cambodia and/or neighboring countries, but wonder if might be the wrong time. Keep seeing articles like this one, plus topics like this forum, which have got me thinking. Look forward to your on-the-ground perspective!
The anti Chinese mood is towards the mainlanders. Never heard the Taiwanese or other Asians being affected.
Plus for an American, even a Chinese looking one, it'd probably beat Iran or irak right now...

Cambodia has strong ties with China and Chinese heritage. The anti Chinese sentiment now it directed at those in SIhanoukville (and probably Poipet and PP) by locals, often on social media. It’s not a countrywide thing.
It’s HE they’re really pissed at.
