What is this dipping sauce with fried meatballs?
What is this dipping sauce with fried meatballs?
Hello everybody
Im looking for the recipe ( and name ) of this dipping sauce sold with fried meatballs essentially by street food.
It looks like tomato sauce. You have 2 types : soft and spicy.
If any khmer people or anybody in Cambodia could ask and give me the answer...
I miss this dish so much.
Thank you a lot.
Jeff

Hi Jeff,
Usually those street vendors just use a commercial chilli sauce, of which there are several brands available here.
Some of them are Vietnamese brands, although there are a couple of Khmer brands around as well these days. They usually come packaged in plastic squeezy bottles and can be found in a wide variety of shops here, from the simple 'mom and pops' type shops you see selling what seems like everything, up to the supermarkets that are here, as well as in the local markets around town.
They are generally pretty inexpensive and you could buy a few bottles to sample for just a few dollars each, or you could try eating at some of the cheaper local restaurants from time to time to see what brands they are using and sample those brands there to see which ones it is that you like.
Cheers

I'm officially worried that Playboy has either: left his phone at Ming's last night after one too many, or been kidnapped and taken ransom.Playboy wrote:Vive la France

By Vietnamese, you mean American. That is the Sriracha produced by Huy Fong -- the chilies are grown in California, where it's also produced. It was founded by a Chinese/Vietnamese-American, David Tran, in 1980. Interestingly enough, the rooster and green cap are trademarked, but they could never trademark the "sriracha" name.Playboy wrote:That is one of the more popular Vietnamese brands hereAlexandra wrote:This?Playboy wrote:P.S. if I see any in the next couple of days I will try to remember to snap a photo of the bottles and post them here
