Rangoon and HCMC both have (tourist) areas to buy paintings and art.
Is there any area like that in PP?

Are you looking to purchase something in particular, or just browsing? Street 172 has many shops, and is near both the national museum and the art university. I also normally bring visitors to Artisans D'angkor, which has many great pieces in their studio, and is located on my favorite block of Phnom Penh (next to the Post Office). There are other gallerias around as well showcasing specific artists.

There is a new gallery on St 178 called K-bach Gallery. I haven't personally checked it out but it seems encouraging.
Also, for any overseas readers, following their page on Facebook (link below) provides an opportunity to win two return flights from anywhere in the world to Cambodia, two weeks accommodation, a tour of the gallery and street art and tickets to Cambodia Urban Arts Festival in December
Fb link https://www.facebook.com/KBachGallery/
Link to k-bach gallery website https://kbachgallery.com/win-tickets-to ... ival-2017/
I will post details on a couple of other places once I have a good internet connection.

Do you mean 178? Street 172 peddles death and despair.Miguelito wrote:Are you looking to purchase something in particular, or just browsing? I'm not looking for anything in particular. The art shops in the other two cities have dozens of little stores selling oil paintings with a lot of colorful Asian themes. Oil paintings 24" x 12" run about $20 if I remember. I just want a few pieces to brighten up a few rooms.

I'm sure he does. There are all those art shops along the opposite side of the road from the uni. Mugging central strip.

Me again.
I personally love Dina Chhan's work. A link to her FB page here: https://www.facebook.com/dinacambodiansculptor/
And her website here: https://www.artistdina.com/
CHHim Sothy, OUK Somvichet and SOUS Sodavy are other artists I like. A couple of links below, you can google others.

I don't know if there is a single gallery for the above. I have only seen them at temporary exhibitions.

Yes, my bad, I do indeed mean 178.gavinmac wrote:Do you mean 178? Street 172 peddles death and despair.Miguelito wrote:Are you looking to purchase something in particular, or just browsing? And based on the OP's second post, that is the street he should check out (or, general touristy artworks at Russian market).
Separately, Violet, your suggestions are great!

I believe he does mean 178, which peddles artwork, statuary, and also a whole lot of muggings, murders, death and despair. It's the heart of the city.gavinmac wrote:Do you mean 178? Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
