A good single malt?
I'm visiting friends abroad soon and would like to bring them some booze as prices here are much lower than there. Namely, I'd like to bring them a decent single-malt. What are some options in town that you believe would be appreciated? I used to drink and even had a Glencairn, but I've long stopped being into it so am clueless. Which shop and what whisky do you recommend?

This might be of some use - work out the overarching characteristic that you want, and work from there:

Fading memories, but I think there was a scotch thread a few years ago. Really cheap in PP, some bargains to be found.

Yep, Glenfiddich is best bang for the buck around PP. You can buy a bottle from those sellers around Psar Kandal for $100 but often you can get it cheaper if you're a good haggler and/or buy some other stuff from the old ladies manning the shop.

Holy shit, $100?! I should have specified that I'm looking for something under $40-50, as I'll be donating this to my old military men's mess... Meaning, a bunch of drunken louts for the most part, though they can occasionally be sober enough to enjoy something good. Even if I were donating to the officer's or WO/SGTs mess, it wouldn't be much better...
Angkor Mart usually has a Lagavulin 16 for around $60. A great whisky.

Question for the whiskey drinkers
Best locally available Scotch

nabanga wrote:The shop next to Lucky on Sihanouk (Mean Sok Heng) has another branch opposite the Cambodiana hotel. Huge range of scotch and Japanese whisky & that American stuff too. Bayon supermarket also has a good range but is a couple of dollars more expensive than Mean Sok Heng.
I was asking the guy in Mean Sok Heng how he manages to keep prices so low, and he said that they are going up soon as the govt tax on spirits is going to be increased. He has a large stock which will be kept at todays prices but when that's gone, prices increase.
