Smoking and ingesting cannabis?
Smoking and ingesting cannabis?
Ok, so I read through a lot of the previous posts on this topic already before posting this, but I had some quick questions because I keep reading conflicting information from various sources.
Some websites are mentioning that there are these places called "Happy" Pizza and that "happy" refers to cannabis. Watched some videos of people at these types of places where they literally say: I will have a large pizza with extra "happy" lol. There are happy shakes as well. I am really interested in trying out these pizzas and shakes and I'm wondering if these places are actually legal?
I ask because although the shops are open and obvious, the police supposedly look the other way because the owners pay off the police to be able to continue their business?
Do the police ever have crackdowns once in a while where they shutdown these types of places and hassle any patrons that go to them?
[deleted]
I will just stick with the happy pizza shops if obtaining decent cannabis from a dealer is a hassle from the police, criminals and dealers themselves. I know to never purchase a joint because it could be laced and I would prefer to purchase a bag, but then again the cannabis itself could also be laced. Is cannabis often laced with harder drugs in Cambodia?
I ask this because I know it is a common situation where heroin is sold as cocaine to foreigners and these foreigners often overdose on the heroin, thinking they are doing big lines of cocaine.
I live in Japan and I used to live in China as well. Due to both countries being anal as hell, there is no way I would ever chance smoking cannabis here or in China, but would it be a big deal in Cambodia as well?

I've smoked for decades but have never had a "happy pizza". The same goes for hash-brownies in Amsterdam or whatever, I'm not sure I'd recommend them. The problem is that people (often with no experience or tolerance) eat them, and because they haven't noticed any special buzz after 5 minutes, eat loads more. Then it hits them a while later and they are fucked.
As for the heroin sold as cocaine thing, it's possible but I don't believe much of it is true. What more likely happens is that foreigners buy heroin here and expect it to be as weak as the adulterated product they've been buying in Europe/America etc. It's way closer to the source and almost completely pure and it tends to leave them dead. Then their friends/ family etc chime in and try to convince everyone that the deceased would never have bought heroin deliberately, they were much more of a fun-loving cocaine type.
Anyway, as far as smoking goes, just don't do it in public and nobody will ever care. It was common for centuries for locals to smoke but seems to have died out in recent decades. I think the only reason it is tolerated somewhat is that young people just aren't interested in it. It's an old people's thing that some foreigners indulge in.

Heroin is one of those guilty pleasures things in the west, sure you might dabble, but dont go.around bragging about it down the pub. Also golden triangle smack is one of those things psyconauts need to try, like jamaican high grade, bolivian flake or goa k. Dont underestimate the allure of such experiences.
As for the weed, theres a family down my street, who grow their own and puff away on bamboo bongs all day. Young lads, who work as labourers (one being the buffest motherfucker you ever did see, people punch him in the guts for his own amusement). everybody knows what they do as a hobby, but dont care, as long as they keep it for personal use in their own yard.
They even take away my bird shit as fertilizer.

I've rarely ever seen local people smoking, maybe just one or two "rasta" style guys running guesthouses by the lake when it existed. I was surprised a year or so back when the father-in-law mentioned how he used to smoke bamboo bongs back in the 70s. There are loads of pictures of republican soldiers smoking then, and I've read old accounts from way back that mention the local men "smoking hashish" (more likely marijuana) to pass the time.

Yes, I definitely don't plan to eat a ton of happy pizza or down a few happy shakes. I would eat one or two slices or just have a shake alone and see how I feel in an hour. I can always go back for more later.
Smoking cannabis is my preferred method though. I'm not really a huge fan of edibles. So aside from the people that live down the street from you, have you seen other people who smoke as well? You guys never see young Cambodians smoking? I wonder why they aren't interested in it...maybe in their culture not liking cannabis is the rebellious thing to do.

If I end up living in Cambodia for a while in the future while I do my online jobs, I would just smoke inside my own apartment, but I'm more hesitant to try it anywhere else (inside or outside).
Do they treat locals and foreigners that are caught smoking it really differently or do they just charge small fines to everyone?
A bamboo bong sounds pretty awesome!
As for the heroin, what you say makes a lot of sense because heroin is so taboo in the west. I have no interest in dabbling with heroin or cocaine. I just want to stick with the green stuff haha.

I am going to leave this thread open, but be careful with what you discuss. This internet forum is not the place to discuss the particulars of where or how to buy or use drugs, and comments specifically addressing those issues will be nixed (and I'll delete some specific questions from Whiteboy).
However, Happy Pizza stores are ubiquitous in a few of the cities, so if they can operate freely in the open then I don't see what we shouldn't be able to talk about them. It's also important that people know to be safe/careful, such us:
As for the harder drugs, I think that it's important to keep this in mind, and more public awareness should be made:

For ingesting cannabis, it is an interesting topic as culturally it has been part of the cuisine here. I've talked to many older Khmer who grew up with it in soups, etc, and that practice is still somewhat common in some provinces, I think. So, small scale cultivation in a garden, for instance, is fine, but running a trunk full of the stuff will get the person in trouble, as recent arrests of locals in places like Ratanakiri has shown.Lucky Lucan wrote:The problem is that people (often with no experience or tolerance) eat them, and because they haven't noticed any special buzz after 5 minutes, eat loads more. So, tread carefully in this thread please. Do not ask for or provide tips for how to buy/use drugs, as this isn't the place for that.Lucky Lucan wrote:As for the heroin sold as cocaine thing, it's possible but I don't believe much of it is true. I apologize. I just thought that since cannabis has been part of Khmer culture for thousands of years, that it wasn't really considered a drug in Cambodia or on this forum.Miguelito wrote:I am going to leave this thread open, but be careful with what you discuss. I will not talk about other things anymore, but is cannabis considered a drug on this forum and in Cambodia?
I see it as a form of medicine.

It is illegal, there have been regular reports of thousands of plants being destroyed in Kirivong in Takeo. Now and again there are stories about farmers being caught smoking, they usually get "re-education" rather than prosecution.I will not talk about other things anymore, but is cannabis considered a drug on this forum and in Cambodia?

Weed is illegal here.
But you usually don't get a police check for weed. (As a passport check, when it happens, that's because you made trouble before hand)
People smokes weed on st 51 all the time, doesn't seem to bother anyone there.

They smoke on Riverside - one barang used to sit at the cafes and smoke a big fatty every morning. I smell it often around the Russian market. Never heard of a barang getting busted for smoking or possession of a small amount.
doesn't make it legal, just often overlookedrgrowden wrote:They smoke on Riverside - one barang used to sit at the cafes and smoke a big fatty every morning. I smell it often around the Russian market. Never heard of a barang getting busted for smoking or possession of a small amount.
What does "re-education" mean in this situation? I assume they are required to listen to some long, boring lectures by the authorities, pay some fine and attend some anonymous group course for a few months or so?Lucky Lucan wrote:It is illegal, there have been regular reports of thousands of plants being destroyed in Kirivong in Takeo. I think they just get a long lecture at the police station.

I wouldn't be so bold as to smoke cannabis out in public, especially if it is technically illegal.rgrowden wrote:They smoke on Riverside - one barang used to sit at the cafes and smoke a big fatty every morning. Even if I was trying to buy some from someone and they were insisting I smoke out with them, I would politely decline and save what I bought for smoking alone behind closed doors.
I don't think I would try smoking in a hotel, hostel, guesthouse...maybe only in an apartment I rent out, should I ever live there.
Do people often rat out people for smoking?
Here in Japan or in China, people rat each other out for everything. It is ridiculous how most people can't seem to mind their own business or relax about anything.
There are a number of things I love about Japanese culture and living here, but as far as smoking cannabis goes, these two countries definitely don't see it in a good light.
It would be great to live in a country that isn't so uptight about cannabis for once in my life.
